About this task

The following procedure provides an overview of the dockscheduling process.

Procedure

  1. Open the Schedule Appointment page. You have the followingoptions to access this page:
    OptionDescription
    New appointmentYou can make an appointment for an existingorder that is listed on the Docks tab. Selectthe order on the Docks tab and click MakeAppts.
    Multiple new appointmentsIf you are entering multiple new appointmentsclick Make Appts on the New Appointments page.The Schedule Appointment page opens and displays the number of appointmentsto schedule.

    When you open the Schedule Appointments page this waypickup appointments from the New Appointments page are listed first.Delivery appointments are listed next.

    If you do not want toschedule all appointments at this time use the Skip buttonto move to the appointments you want to work with.

    Existing appointmentYou can edit an existing appointment that islisted on the Docks tab. Select the appointmentand click Edit Appts.
  2. If you are making an appointment for a new order specifythe location order number and other information in the fields atthe top of the Schedule Appointment page. If you are making an appointmentfor an existing order or shipment you can view these fields but cannotchange them.
  3. Define the duration for the appointment. You have the followingoptions:
    • You can use the calculated duration. Sterling TMS calculatesthe duration based on the load/unload rate that was defined for thepartner and the quantity you enter. Then the system rounds up to thenearest default load/unload duration that was defined for the dock.For example for a load/unload rate of 1 pallet per 10 minutes aquantity of 10 pallets and a default duration of 60 minutes Sterling TMS calculatesa duration of 120 minutes.
    • If you have not selected a location for the appointment Sterling TMS uses a defaultduration of 150 minutes.
    • If you do not want to use the calculated duration set OverrideDuration to Yes. Then enter theduration for the appointment.
  4. Select the Planned Appointment Time Window andclick Check Docks. Sterling TMS displays thedocks that are open during that window.
  5. Select a dock time slot to indicate the start time of theappointment.
  6. Click Save to complete the appointment. Sterling TMS uses the durationfrom Step 3 to calculate the end time of the appointment.
