Carrier Configuration Steps
To access the Carrier Configuration module of Sterling TMS your userprofile must have the Configuration user roleset to Carrier Administrator. To access theCarrier Configuration module click Edit Account atthe top of the Sterling TMS Welcomepage.
The Carrier Configuration process consists of six steps:
- Step 1: Set Up Organization
Set up the main configuration for your carrier organizationaccount. You have to define the following features:
- Organization Profile
- Connectivity
- Alert Activation
- Password Policy
- Reference Field Setup
- Step 2: Set Up Areas
Use areas to organize the shipping zones and regions whereyou do business. Carriers can define areas that are based on postalcodes states and provinces or countries.
- Step 3: Set Up Fleets
Define the fleets you will work with in Sterling TMS. For eachfleet you define the following attributes:
- The type such as preferred or dedicated
- The mode such as Truckload or LTL
- The equipment types and sizes
- Which shippers can work with this fleet in Sterling TMS
- Step 4: Set Up Shipper Groups
You can define shipper groups to organize your shippers basedon your business requirements.
For example you might set upshipper groups for different geographic regions.
- Step 5: Set Up Users
Set up accounts for the Sterling TMS users andcontacts in your organization. You define roles that determine whichSterling TMS features each user can access.
- Step 6: Set Up Shipper Relationships
Manage your relationships with the shippers you do businesswith in Sterling TMS.
Forexample you can specify the following settings:
- Whether you propose and accept contract changes in Sterling TMS
- Whether you receive shipment tenders through Sterling TMS
- Whether you send shipment status updates to Sterling TMS
Whenyou log on to Sterling TMSclick Edit Account to open the Logistics ServiceProvider Configuration Wizard.
Additional Notes for Carrier Configuration
Thefollowing notes apply to setting up your Sterling TMS configuration.
- Use the Connectivity process in Step 1 of Carrier Configurationto define the data exchange setup for data you receive from Sterling TMS. In additionyou have to work with IBM? todetermine your requirements for submitting data to Sterling TMS using EDI.For more information please contact your Sterling TMS enrollmentspecialist or Customer Support.
- The shippers you work with in Sterling TMS each definetheir own configuration. You might want to work with your shippersto establish best practices such as the alerts your users shouldreceive from Sterling TMS.When your shippers subscribe to alerts their subscriptions do notdetermine which alerts your organization receives.
- Yourshipper can define custom reference fields custom equipment listsand custom reason code names. These features are only available tothe shipper organization. Your carrier organization can only viewstandard reference fields equipment types and reason codes thatare provided by Sterling TMS.
