Equipment Types and Equipment Lists
Sterling TMS supportsthe following features to help shippers organize their equipment:
- Equipment Types
Sterling TMS providesthe standard equipment types and the sizes associated with these types.
Shipperadministrators and users can select a specific equipment type andsize when they define contracts shipments configuration rules andother features in Sterling TMS.
For example you might createa contract lane and set the Equipment Type to DryVan and set the size to 48 feet.
Shipperscan group related equipment types into equipment lists.
- Equipment Lists
Shippers can define equipment lists which consist of one ormore equipment types and sizes.
For example:
- You define an equipment list named DV001.The list contains 48-foot 53-foot and 57-foot dryvans.
- You create a shipment in Execution and select the DV001 equipmentlist.
- You tender the shipment to Carrier ABCD and Carrier ABCD acceptsthe load.
- Carrier ABCD selects the proper size of dry van based on theweight or the available equipment.
The shipper administrator defines these equipment lists inStep 7 of Shipper Configuration.
- Custom Equipment List
By default Sterling TMS providesdozens of standard equipment types to support the requirements ofall shippers.
Each shipper can set up a customequipment list to restrict the equipment types and sizes that userscan select in Sterling TMS.
Forexample:
- You only want your users to select refrigerated trucks or tankersfor shipments.
- Your organization never uses flatbed trailers or other specialtyequipment to deliver freight.
The shipper administrator defines the custom equipment listin Step 1 of Shipper Configuration.
