ERROR: Unable to logon to the DB2 database, SQL1013N, when connecting to ClearQuest



This technote addresses an error, "Unable to logon to the DB2 database" and an error code of SQL1013N that can occur when trying to connect to IBM® Rational® ClearQuest® with an IBM DB2® backend.


The following error can occur when trying to make a connection to a DB2 database with any of the ClearQuest tools:

Unable to logon to the DB2 database "<DB NAME>".

The vendor error message was:
SQLDriverConnect: RETCODE=-1, State=08001, Native Error=-1013
[IBM][CLI Driver] SQL1013N


The DB2 database does not have a database alias configured.


This problem exists in ClearQuest versions prior to 7.0.0. Earlier versions utilize DB2 drivers instead of DataDirect drivers, and there for rely on local DB2 client software.

Resolving The Problem

Before using the ClearQuest tools with DB2 backend databases, all users must use the DB2 Client Configuration Assistant (CCA) to create a DB2 alias for each ClearQuest schema repository and user database.

From the start menu, run the IBM DB2 > Client Configuration Assistant and add a database alias.
