Security Bulletin
Summary
IBM ApplinX is vulnerable to multiple vulnerabilities due to use of third-party libraries: Apache WSS4J (wss4j-ws-security-common and wss4j-ws-security-dom) is vulnerable to improper authentication, insufficient verification of data authenticity, authentication bypass by spoofing, improper input validation, and integer overflow vulnerabilities (CVE-2026-85532, CVE-2026-88920, CVE-2026-89238, CVE-2026-92899, CVE-2026-95616); Apache XmlSchema is vulnerable to uncontrolled recursion vulnerabilities (CVE-2026-102495, CVE-2026-102496); picomatch is vulnerable to an inefficient regular expression complexity vulnerability (CVE-2026-112366). The affected versions have been updated within IBM ApplinX in order to address the vulnerabilities.
Vulnerability Details
CVEID: CVE-2026-88920
DESCRIPTION: An authentication bypass in the DOM security processor in Apache WSS4J allows unauthenticated remote attackers to forge authenticated SOAP messages via a crafted unsigned SAML sender-vouches assertion containing an attacker-controlled key.
Users are recommended to upgrade to versions 4.0.2 or 3.0.6 or 2.4.4, which fix this issue.
CWE: CWE-287: Improper Authentication
CVSS Source: CISA ADP
CVSS Base score: 9.8
CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H)
CVEID: CVE-2026-89238
DESCRIPTION: WSS4J EncryptedHeader child confusion could promote an attacker-controlled plaintext element as the decrypted header, leading to incorrect confidentiality coverage and possible policy bypass.
Users are recommended to upgrade to versions 4.0.2 or 3.0.6 or 2.4.4, which fix this issue.
CWE: CWE-345: Insufficient Verification of Data Authenticity
CVSS Source: CISA ADP
CVSS Base score: 9.1
CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:N)
CVEID: CVE-2026-92899
DESCRIPTION: Apache WSS4J remembers the Nonce of each UsernameToken it accepts, so a captured token cannot be reused. It stored the Nonce as raw base64 text, but authentication decodes that text and uses the bytes. The same bytes can be written as base64 in several ways. An attacker who captured an authenticated request could re-send it with a space added to the Nonce: the password digest still verified, but the token no longer matched the remembered one, so the replay was accepted. Since a UsernameToken does not cover the message body, the captured token could then be reused on requests of the attacker's choosing until it expired. Affects deployments with a nonce replay cache configured, as Apache CXF has by default, and only tokens using a password digest. The cache is now keyed on the decoded Nonce. Users are recommended to upgrade to versions 4.0.2 or 3.0.6 or 2.4.4, which fix this issue.
CWE: CWE-290: Authentication Bypass by Spoofing
CVSS Source: CISA ADP
CVSS Base score: 4.8
CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:N)
CVEID: CVE-2026-112366
DESCRIPTION: Picomatch through 4.0.7 contains a regular expression denial of service vulnerability that allows attackers to block the event loop by supplying single-branch repeated extglob patterns. Attackers can provide globs like +(*) or +(*a), which analyzeRepeatedExtglob in lib/parse.js skips, causing exponential backtracking against short crafted strings and denying service to Node.js applications.
CWE: CWE-1333: Inefficient Regular Expression Complexity
CVSS Source: disclosure@vulncheck.com
CVSS Base score: 7.5
CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H)
CVEID: CVE-2026-102495
DESCRIPTION: Apache XmlSchema doesn't limit how deeply schema imports and includes can be nested, so a malicious schema can make parsing recurse until the stack overflows. This causes a denial of service.
Users are recommended to upgrade to version 2.3.3, which fixes this issue.
CWE: CWE-674: Uncontrolled Recursion
CVSS Source: CISA ADP
CVSS Base score: 7.5
CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H)
CVEID: CVE-2026-102496
DESCRIPTION: Apache XmlSchema doesn't limit how deeply schema structures can be nested when it builds its schema model, so a malicious schema can make parsing recurse until the stack overflows. This causes a denial of service.
Users are recommended to upgrade to version 2.3.3, which fixes this issue.
CWE: CWE-674: Uncontrolled Recursion
CVSS Source: CISA ADP
CVSS Base score: 7.5
CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H)
CVEID: CVE-2026-85532
DESCRIPTION: Apache WSS4J accepted attacker-controlled derived-key lengths and offsets without adequate bounds. This could permit cryptographically weak keys or excessive CPU and memory consumption when processing crafted WS-Security messages. The fixes enforce a minimum key length of 16 bytes, a maximum length of 512 bytes, and a maximum offset of 4096 bytes.
Users are recommended to upgrade to versions 4.0.2 or 3.0.6 or 2.4.4, which fix this issue.
CWE: CWE-20: Improper Input Validation
CVSS Source: CISA ADP
CVSS Base score: 7.5
CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H)
CVEID: CVE-2026-95616
DESCRIPTION: An integer overflow in WSS4J's DER bounds check lets an oversized allocation pass validation. An unauthenticated attacker can send a SOAP message carrying an X.509 certificate whose SubjectKeyIdentifier extension declares a length of 0x7FFFFFFF; WSS4J decodes this while resolving the signature's key reference, before the message is authenticated, so an eleven-byte extension triggers a 2 GB allocation. Repeated requests exhaust server memory.
Users are recommended to upgrade to versions 4.0.2 or 3.0.6 or 2.4.4, which fix this issue.
CWE: CWE-190: Integer Overflow or Wraparound
CVSS Source: CISA ADP
CVSS Base score: 7.5
CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H)

Disclaimer
According to the Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams (FIRST), the Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) is an "industry open standard designed to convey vulnerability severity and help to determine urgency and priority of response." IBM PROVIDES THE CVSS SCORES ""AS IS"" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, INCLUDING THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. CUSTOMERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ASSESSING THE IMPACT OF ANY ACTUAL OR POTENTIAL SECURITY VULNERABILITY. In addition to other efforts to address potential vulnerabilities, IBM periodically updates the record of components contained in our product offerings. As part of that effort, if IBM identifies previously unidentified packages in a product/service inventory, we address relevant vulnerabilities regardless of CVE date. Inclusion of an older CVEID does not demonstrate that the referenced product has been used by IBM since that date, nor that IBM was aware of a vulnerability as of that date. We are making clients aware of relevant vulnerabilities as we become aware of them. "Affected Products and Versions" referenced in IBM Security Bulletins are intended to be only products and versions that are supported by IBM and have not passed their end-of-support or warranty date. Thus, failure to reference unsupported or extended-support products and versions in this Security Bulletin does not constitute a determination by IBM that they are unaffected by the vulnerability. Reference to one or more unsupported versions in this Security Bulletin shall not create an obligation for IBM to provide fixes for any unsupported or extended-support products or versions.
