Security Bulletin: Impacted IBM Optim 1.0.0, 1.1.0 and 1.2.0 by vulnerabilities in netty-codec-http, Keycloak, LIBPNG

Security Bulletin

Summary

IBM Optim versions 1.0.0, 1.1.0 and 1.2.0 include open-source packages netty-codec-http, Keycloak and LIBPNG that are affected by high-severity vulnerabilities. IBM Optim 2.0.0 resolves these vulnerabilities by upgrading the affected open-source dependencies to a fixed version.

Vulnerability Details

CVEID:   CVE-2026-33870
DESCRIPTION:   Netty is an asynchronous, event-driven network application framework. In versions prior to 4.1.132.Final and 4.2.10.Final, Netty incorrectly parses quoted strings in HTTP/1.1 chunked transfer encoding extension values, enabling request smuggling attacks. Versions 4.1.132.Final and 4.2.10.Final fix the issue.
CWE:   CWE-444: Inconsistent Interpretation of HTTP Requests ('HTTP Request/Response Smuggling')
CVSS Source:   security-advisories@github.com
CVSS Base score:   7.5
CVSS Vector:   (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:N)

CVEID:   CVE-2026-33871
DESCRIPTION:   Netty is an asynchronous, event-driven network application framework. In versions prior to 4.1.132.Final and 4.2.10.Final, a remote user can trigger a Denial of Service (DoS) against a Netty HTTP/2 server by sending a flood of `CONTINUATION` frames. The server's lack of a limit on the number of `CONTINUATION` frames, combined with a bypass of existing size-based mitigations using zero-byte frames, allows an user to cause excessive CPU consumption with minimal bandwidth, rendering the server unresponsive. Versions 4.1.132.Final and 4.2.10.Final fix the issue.
CWE:   CWE-770: Allocation of Resources Without Limits or Throttling
CVSS Source:   NVD
CVSS Base score:   7.5
CVSS Vector:   (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H)

CVEID:   CVE-2026-2603
DESCRIPTION:   A flaw was found in Keycloak. A remote attacker could bypass security controls by sending a valid SAML response from an external Identity Provider (IdP) to the Keycloak SAML endpoint for IdP-initiated broker logins. This allows the attacker to complete broker logins even when the SAML Identity Provider is disabled, leading to unauthorized authentication.
CWE:   CWE-306: Missing Authentication for Critical Function
CVSS Source:   secalert@redhat.com
CVSS Base score:   8.1
CVSS Vector:   (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:N)

CVEID:   CVE-2026-2092
DESCRIPTION:   A flaw was found in Keycloak. Keycloak's Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML) broker endpoint does not properly validate encrypted assertions when the overall SAML response is not signed. An attacker with a valid signed SAML assertion can exploit this by crafting a malicious SAML response. This allows the attacker to inject an encrypted assertion for an arbitrary principal, leading to unauthorized access and potential information disclosure.
CWE:   CWE-1287: Improper Validation of Specified Type of Input
CVSS Source:   secalert@redhat.com
CVSS Base score:   7.7
CVSS Vector:   (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:L/A:L)

CVEID:   CVE-2026-3009
DESCRIPTION:   A security flaw in the IdentityBrokerService.performLogin endpoint of Keycloak allows authentication to proceed using an Identity Provider (IdP) even after it has been disabled by an administrator. An attacker who knows the IdP alias can reuse a previously generated login request to bypass the administrative restriction. This undermines access control enforcement and may allow unauthorized authentication through a disabled external provider.
CWE:   CWE-863: Incorrect Authorization
CVSS Source:   NVD
CVSS Base score:   8.1
CVSS Vector:   (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:N)

CVEID:   CVE-2025-66293
DESCRIPTION:   LIBPNG is a reference library for use in applications that read, create, and manipulate PNG (Portable Network Graphics) raster image files. Prior to 1.6.52, an out-of-bounds read vulnerability in libpng's simplified API allows reading up to 1012 bytes beyond the png_sRGB_base[512] array when processing valid palette PNG images with partial transparency and gamma correction. The PNG files that trigger this vulnerability are valid per the PNG specification; the bug is in libpng's internal state management. Upgrade to libpng 1.6.52 or later.
CWE:   CWE-125: Out-of-bounds Read
CVSS Source:   security-advisories@github.com
CVSS Base score:   7.1
CVSS Vector:   (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:H)

CVEID:   CVE-2026-25646
DESCRIPTION:   LIBPNG is a reference library for use in applications that read, create, and manipulate PNG (Portable Network Graphics) raster image files. Prior to 1.6.55, an out-of-bounds read vulnerability exists in the png_set_quantize() API function. When the function is called with no histogram and the number of colors in the palette is more than twice the maximum supported by the user's display, certain palettes will cause the function to enter into an infinite loop that reads past the end of an internal heap-allocated buffer. The images that trigger this vulnerability are valid per the PNG specification. This vulnerability is fixed in 1.6.55.
CWE:   CWE-122: Heap-based Buffer Overflow
CVSS Source:   NVD
CVSS Base score:   8.1
CVSS Vector:   (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H)

Disclaimer

According to the Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams (FIRST), the Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) is an "industry open standard designed to convey vulnerability severity and help to determine urgency and priority of response." IBM PROVIDES THE CVSS SCORES ""AS IS"" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, INCLUDING THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. CUSTOMERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ASSESSING THE IMPACT OF ANY ACTUAL OR POTENTIAL SECURITY VULNERABILITY. In addition to other efforts to address potential vulnerabilities, IBM periodically updates the record of components contained in our product offerings. As part of that effort, if IBM identifies previously unidentified packages in a product/service inventory, we address relevant vulnerabilities regardless of CVE date. Inclusion of an older CVEID does not demonstrate that the referenced product has been used by IBM since that date, nor that IBM was aware of a vulnerability as of that date. We are making clients aware of relevant vulnerabilities as we become aware of them. "Affected Products and Versions" referenced in IBM Security Bulletins are intended to be only products and versions that are supported by IBM and have not passed their end-of-support or warranty date. Thus, failure to reference unsupported or extended-support products and versions in this Security Bulletin does not constitute a determination by IBM that they are unaffected by the vulnerability. Reference to one or more unsupported versions in this Security Bulletin shall not create an obligation for IBM to provide fixes for any unsupported or extended-support products or versions.
