Security Bulletin
Summary
IBM Enterprise Build of Quarkus is affected by vulnerabilities in Proton-J, MongoDB Client, Apache HTTP Client and Netty
Vulnerability Details
CVEID: CVE-2026-59903
DESCRIPTION: Netty is an asynchronous, event-driven network application framework. Prior to 4.1.137.Final and 4.2.17.Final, io.netty.handler.codec.http.cors.CorsHandler setVaryHeader replaces application Vary headers such as Authorization or Cookie with Origin, allowing a caching proxy or CDN to reuse authenticated responses across users and disclose sensitive information. This issue is fixed in versions 4.1.137.Final and 4.2.17.Final.
CWE: CWE-524: Use of Cache Containing Sensitive Information
CVSS Source: security-advisories@github.com
CVSS Base score: 6.5
CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:L/A:N)
CVEID: CVE-2026-71290
DESCRIPTION: Improper TLS hostname verification vulnerability in Apache HttpComponents Client 5.4 or newer. HostnameVerificationPolicy#BUILTIN setting has no effect when used with the async version of HttpClient. An attacker that can intercept and modify traffic between the client and the server can impersonate the server by presenting a valid certificate for a different domain.
Please note the classic version of HttpClient is not affected by this vulnerability.
Affected users are recommended to upgrade to at least version 5.6.4, which fixes the issue.
CWE: CWE-295: Improper Certificate Validation
CVSS Source: CISA ADP
CVSS Base score: 9.1
CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:N)
CVEID: CVE-2026-66257
DESCRIPTION: A pre-authentication attacker could leverage unbounded symbol value caching to cause resource exhaustion leading to denial of service.
This issue affects Apache Qpid Proton-J: through 0.34.1.
Users are recommended to upgrade to version 0.35.0, which fixes the issue.
CWE: CWE-770: Allocation of Resources Without Limits or Throttling
CVSS Source: CISA ADP
CVSS Base score: 7.5
CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H)
CVEID: CVE-2026-62243
DESCRIPTION: Netty (io.netty:netty-handler) versions from 4.2.0.Final through 4.2.16.Final and versions through 4.1.136.Final disable TLS hostname verification on the SslProvider.OPENSSL client path when a plain (non-extended) X509TrustManager is used and Unsafe-based trust-manager wrapping is unavailable (Java 25+). In this configuration the OpenSSL client does not perform hostname verification, allowing a man-in-the-middle attacker to present a certificate issued for a different hostname that is accepted without validation. Fixed in 4.2.17.Final and 4.1.137.Final.
CWE: CWE-297: Improper Validation of Certificate with Host Mismatch
CVSS Source: disclosure@vulncheck.com
CVSS Base score: 7.5
CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N)
CVEID: CVE-2026-66274
DESCRIPTION: A pre-authentication attacker could leverage type nesting to cause a StackOverflowError potentially leading to denial of service.
This issue affects Apache Qpid Proton-J: through 0.34.1.
Users are recommended to upgrade to version 0.35.0, which fixes the issue.
CWE: CWE-674: Uncontrolled Recursion
CVSS Source: CISA ADP
CVSS Base score: 7.5
CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H)
CVEID: CVE-2026-66273
DESCRIPTION: A pre-authentication attacker could leverage type size/count handling to cause excessive allocation leading to potential denial of service.
This issue affects Apache Qpid Proton-J: through 0.34.1.
Users are recommended to upgrade to version 0.35.0, which fixes the issue.
CWE: CWE-789: Memory Allocation with Excessive Size Value
CVSS Source: CISA ADP
CVSS Base score: 7.5
CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H)
CVEID: CVE-2026-18710
DESCRIPTION: A MongoDB driver component could write sensitive configuration information, including a credential used for outbound network connectivity, to application log output in cleartext during routine client initialization. This occurs automatically as part of normal operation and requires no special privileges to trigger. A party able to read the affected application's logs or downstream log-aggregation storage could recover the credential and reuse it to authenticate to the associated network infrastructure. This issue affects confidentiality only.
CWE: CWE-532: Insertion of Sensitive Information into Log File
CVSS Source: cna@mongodb.com
CVSS Base score: 6.5
CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:N/A:N)
CVEID: CVE-2026-64607
DESCRIPTION: HttpClient based on the classic i/o model fails to correctly release the underlying connection back to the connection manager if it encounters an invalid or unsupported `Content-Encoding` header value in the response message. Please note this defect does not affect HttpClient based on the async i/o model.
This issue affects Apache HttpComponents Client: from 5.0-alpha1 through 5.6.2.
CWE: CWE-772: Missing Release of Resource after Effective Lifetime
CVSS Source: CISA ADP
CVSS Base score: 5.3
CVSS Vector: (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:L)

Disclaimer
According to the Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams (FIRST), the Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) is an "industry open standard designed to convey vulnerability severity and help to determine urgency and priority of response." IBM PROVIDES THE CVSS SCORES ""AS IS"" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, INCLUDING THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. CUSTOMERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ASSESSING THE IMPACT OF ANY ACTUAL OR POTENTIAL SECURITY VULNERABILITY. In addition to other efforts to address potential vulnerabilities, IBM periodically updates the record of components contained in our product offerings. As part of that effort, if IBM identifies previously unidentified packages in a product/service inventory, we address relevant vulnerabilities regardless of CVE date. Inclusion of an older CVEID does not demonstrate that the referenced product has been used by IBM since that date, nor that IBM was aware of a vulnerability as of that date. We are making clients aware of relevant vulnerabilities as we become aware of them. "Affected Products and Versions" referenced in IBM Security Bulletins are intended to be only products and versions that are supported by IBM and have not passed their end-of-support or warranty date. Thus, failure to reference unsupported or extended-support products and versions in this Security Bulletin does not constitute a determination by IBM that they are unaffected by the vulnerability. Reference to one or more unsupported versions in this Security Bulletin shall not create an obligation for IBM to provide fixes for any unsupported or extended-support products or versions.
