Abstract
Installing appliance patch 12.0p231 may cause Guardium systems configured with an EFI bootloader to fail during startup and stop at the GRUB prompt. Systems that do not use EFI firmware are not affected by this issue.

After installing appliance patch 12.0p231, Guardium systems using EFI firmware may fail to boot properly. During startup, the system can become stuck at the GRUB prompt and will not continue loading the operating system.
Affected environment
- Guardium 12.x systems
- Systems configured to use EFI firmware
How to determine whether your system uses EFI
- Log in to the Guardium appliance GUI.
- In the search field, open the System Monitor report.
- Under Hard Disk Usage, review the Mounted On column.
- Look for the mount point
/boot/efi:- If
/boot/efiis present, the appliance is using EFI. - If
/boot/efiis not present, the appliance is not using EFI and is not affected by this issue.

Workaround
If patch 12.0p231 was already installed and the system is stuck at the GRUB prompt, use the following command from the GRUB console to continue the boot process:
configfile (hd0,gpt2)/grub2/grub.cfg
After the system boots successfully, plan to upgrade to 12.0p232 after it becomes available.
Impact
- Affected systems may become unavailable following installation of patch 12.0p231.
- The issue occurs only on systems configured with EFI firmware.
- Systems using legacy BIOS boot mode are not affected.
