Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: Users of Enterprise COBOL 6.4 compiling and *
    * running programs with the LP(64) option in *
    * effect, where the program contains a data *
    * item under the scope of a 'DATA 31' *
    * directive and the data item is redefined by *
    *                 another data item.                           *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Incorrect runtime behaviour, including *
    * a possible runtime abend, due to the *
    * data item being located above the 2GB *
    * bar instead of below it. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the IBM-provided PTF.                  *
    ****************************************************************
    The compiler was not correctly applying the DATA directive to
    redefined data items.

Problem conclusion

  • The compiler was updated so that the DATA directive is properly
    applied to redefined data items.
