Question & Answer
Question
New IBM i client partition was create and configured to boot from NPIV-SAN storage. SAN zoning has been validated to be correct and the storage has been provisioned to the client's WWPNs. However, when I boot the client partition from IBM i OS image using the VIOS repository, the client hangs with reference code C2004130 and the vfchost status remains "NOT_LOGGED_IN". Why is that?
Cause
The VIO Server-Client adapter ID mapping on the HMC may be misconfigured or the IBM i Installation ISO image in the VIOS repository may be bad.
Answer
- Verify the client partition's profile > Tagged IO tab has the Load Source set to the Client Fiber Channel Slot hosting the SAN disk where you want to load the OS to and the Alternate restart device is set to the virtual SCSI client adapter hosting the virtual optical device.
- The virtual FC Server to Client adapter mapping may be misconfigured on the HMC. Verify the connecting adapter ID on the VIOS and client partitions are cross-referencing each other.
- Download new IBM i Installation ISO Images from the Entitlement Software Support site; copy the new images into the VIOS repository; load it into the virtual optical device and try again.
