Abstract
The following updates are available in release 2.1.22 of Planning Analytics Workspace.
Content
View and manage notifications in the notification panel
You can access a centralized notification panel to view in‑product messages that are generated while you work in Planning Analytics Workspace.
Examples of notifications include those generated when you save a book, run a process from an action button, or execute a forecast. Notifications remain available in the panel for later review. You can also choose to silence toast notifications and receive notifications only in the panel. The notification panel is available across all areas of Planning Analytics Workspace, including modeling, books, reports and analysis, and administration.
To view the notification panel, click the Bell icon on any Planning Analytics Workspace page.
Format attribute rows and columns in cube views
You can now apply format settings to attribute rows and columns in cube views by using the Format manager.
The attribute rows and columns appear between member names and data on each axis. They are presented in the header area as display‑only and do not support updating attribute values.
To configure attribute formatting for rows and columns, open the Format manager from the cube view toolbar, select the View tab, and then select Column attribute or Row attribute.
Contribution panel improvements
The contribution panel in plans has an improved visual design with clearer button labels.
The contribution panel features an enhanced visual design with clearer information presentation. The button labels are improved to provide better clarity and context for different task types.
For regular tasks, the panel displays the Revert submission button. When working with data accountability tasks, the button label changes to Revert member submission to reflect the specific action. Task completion control is managed through the Manage completion and Revert member completion buttons.
These improvements apply automatically to all plans.
Viewer assignment in workspace plans
You can now assign viewers to tasks in workspace plans to provide visibility without participation in the contribution and approval process.
Tasks in workspace plans now include a viewer assignment in addition to contributor and approver assignments. This assignment type is supported in both regular tasks and data accountability tasks.
When you assign a group with viewer access, users in that group can view data but cannot take ownership, submit, approve, reject, or change the task state. Users with viewer assignment do not see action buttons in the task panel. To assign viewers, you select a workspace group for a regular task or member in a data accountability task. If you assign viewers to a consolidated member in a data accountability task, the assignment applies to the consolidated member and all descendant members.
If a group contains users with multiple assignments to the same members, those users retain their higher-level permissions. For example, users with both viewer and contributor assignments can take ownership and submit tasks.
Split view and Diff view for comparing rules edits
You can use split view to edit different parts of a rules script side by side, and use Diff view to compare your unsaved changes with the saved version.
Split view opens a second script panel so you can review and update multiple sections simultaneously. This helps when you need to compare feeders with other parts of your rules. To use split view, you open a business rule and click Split view.
Diff view highlights differences between your unsaved edits and the current saved version. This helps you detect merge conflicts when other users update the same rules and prevents unintentional overwrites. To use Diff view, you click the Diff view icon.
You can configure the number of context lines displayed in Diff view through Preferences for Rules. The default shows 5 lines before and 4 lines after each change.
WatsonX Orchestrate agentic chat assistant integration
You can use the WatsonX Orchestrate agentic chat assistant with multilingual support and expanded commands.
The WatsonX Orchestrate assistant replaces Watson Assistant and is available across Planning Analytics Workspace. It supports multiple languages based on your browser settings, though AI features like chart insights remain English-only.
You can open books, workbenches, or plans by name, list users and groups, view group membership, and switch between areas. The assistant provides how-to guidance for modeling and writing TurboIntegrator scripts. All commands execute directly without disambiguation. If you trigger a command in the wrong area, the assistant provides feedback.
Copy and view activity details in database activities
You view and capture key details for running activities more easily. You can display the Activity ID column in database activities to identify running jobs, and you can quickly copy the session ID, activity ID, or description to your clipboard.
When you monitor database activities, you can now access additional details that help you track and troubleshoot running jobs more effectively. The Activity ID column provides a unique identifier for each running job, making it easier to reference specific activities when analyzing performance or investigating issues.
To display the Activity ID column, you open the configuration menu in the Activities tab and enable the Activity IDoption. The column is not displayed by default.
You can also copy key activity details directly to your clipboard for documentation or sharing purposes. To copy a session ID, activity ID, or description, you open the overflow menu for any activity in the list and select the specific copy option you need. The system immediately copies the selected detail to your clipboard, ready for you to paste into other applications or documents.
These features are available only in Planning Analytics Administration.
Access MCP tools through a unified endpoint
All Model Context Protocol (MCP) tools are now available through a single endpoint, simplifying integration and access to the complete toolset.
A new unified endpoint, /ibm-pa-tools, provides access to all available MCP tools. This endpoint replaces the previous approach of using multiple discrete endpoints for different tool groups. Endpoints that were used for cube tools and analysis tools are no longer available. If you have existing integrations that rely on these endpoints, update them to use the/ibm-pa-tools endpoint instead.
By consolidating MCP tools under a single endpoint, you can more easily integrate with external systems that use Planning Analytics tools. This approach reduces complexity for you to discover and use available tools, while allowing the applications to manage tool selection and access.
Query performance metrics through MCP tools
You can now retrieve performance and resource metrics for TM1® databases through the Model Context Protocol (MCP) by using the TM1 Metrics API.
This capability allows MCP tools to return resource utilization and cube-level statistics so that you can analyze model performance and health, including through natural language queries. You can retrieve metrics for specific cubes or a list of cubes by applying filters such as cube name, and retrieve replica-level metrics including memory, CPU, and storage usage to help monitor resource consumption and identify imbalances.
The MCP tool uses the TM1 Metrics API endpoint GET {{databaseRoot}}/Metrics() and supports filtering to return targeted results.
Removal of custom watsonx Orchestrate support
Custom watsonx Orchestrate configurations are no longer supported. Planning Analytics now supports only agent-based integrations.
Support for custom watsonx Orchestrate configurations is now removed. You can no longer define or use custom assistants by specifying watsonx Orchestrate connection settings. Configurations that use custom watsonx Orchestratesettings, such as wx_assistant parameters, are no longer supported and results in errors. Configurations that are no longer supported include configurations that specify API URLs, API keys, or project identifiers for watsonx Orchestrate.
Planning Analytics now supports agent-based integrations as the standard approach. To implement conversational or AI-assisted workflows, use agents instead of custom watsonx Orchestrate configurations.
