Abstract

IBM released IBM® Maximo® Application Suite Monitor component 9.2.0

Content

Major Features & Enhancements

  • Simplified IoT platform architecture
    • Starting in Maximo Monitor 9.2, the IoT platform architecture has been simplified and optimized.
    • The redesign reduces platform complexity, lowers resource consumption, and improves operational efficiency compared to earlier multi-tenant implementations.
  • Reduced Kubernetes operator footprint
    • As a system administrator, you can now manage deployments more efficiently with a reduced number of Kubernetes operators.
    • Only essential gateway and authentication operators remain, which simplifies deployment and ongoing cluster management.
  • Independent Maximo Monitor installation
    • As a system administrator, you can now install and run Maximo Monitor independently without the mandatory dependency on IoT platform that was required in earlier releases.
    • This change provides greater deployment flexibility and reduces system complexity.
  • Optional IoT Platform Operations Admin
    • As a system administrator, you can now choose whether to install IoT Platform Operations Admin as an optional component.
    • If you do not install it, IoT Platform Operations Admin services are not deployed and related menus and workspaces do not appear in the user interface.
    • This configuration enables a cleaner installation for customers who require Monitor capabilities only.
  • Consolidated database architecture
    • As a system administrator, you can now manage all data within the Maximo Monitor database.
    • IoT Platform-specific database schemas and MongoDB support are removed, which simplifies database management and reduces infrastructure requirements.
  • Automated upgrade data migration
    • As a system administrator, you can now upgrade from version 9.1 to 9.2 with automated data migration.
    • Provided migration scripts automatically move existing IoT Platform Operations Admin and MongoDB data, including device attributes and related configuration data, into the Monitor database.
  • CSV-based data ingestion
    • As an operations manager or data analyst, you can now ingest data from CSV files directly into Maximo Monitor.
    • You can load and analyze operational data without requiring MQTT-connected devices.
  • Edge Data Collector integration
    • As an operations manager, you can now access the Edge Data Collector directly from the Maximo Monitor workspace.
    • This integration improves alignment with Monitor data ingestion and processing workflows.
  • Modernized authentication processing
    • As a system administrator, you benefit from modernized authentication processing that now uses the Monitor database schema.
    • Device and gateway authentication behaviour remains unchanged for users. This update is internal and transparent to customers.
  • RBAC (Resource based access control)
    • Introduced an advanced resource-level security model that defines access permissions at the individual resource level rather than solely through user roles.
    • Enabled granular access control over specific data, objects, and system functionalities.
    • Enhanced administrative control by allowing permissions to be granted or restricted for individual resources based on business requirements
  • Improved Alerting (Accuracy & Insights)
    • Enhanced and optimized alerting capabilities to improve alert accuracy, reduce false positives, and provide actionable insights for faster issue identification and resolution.
    • Added AlertByOccurrencesCount, enabling frequency-based monitoring by detecting when specific conditions occur repeatedly within a defined time period.
    • Added NoDataAlert, which monitors data availability and generates alerts when devices or sensors stop transmitting data for a configured period.
  • Parent level Aggregation of Child Metrics (Hierarchical Analytics)
    • MAS Monitor supports parent-level charting of child resource metrics, enabling dashboards that visualize child device metrics within parent resources without creating new KPIs or duplicating data.
    • Hierarchy dashboards are available for Location, Asset, System, Site, and Organization resources, with support for applying aggregation and grain to child metrics for comprehensive visualization
