Configure the Video Metrics Report
After opening the report tool, configure the report using the available options.
- Select the content type, such as live broadcast or video on demand.
- Select the channel.
- Enter a report title.
- Choose a date range.
Select Report Data and Charts
Next, choose which data and charts should appear in the PDF report.
The available selections are:
- Number of viewers
- Viewing time
- Detailed charts
Number of Viewers Dataset
The number of viewers dataset allows you to display key viewer metrics for live streams or on-demand content.
This dataset may include:
- Peak concurrent views
- Total views
- Unique devices
- Authenticated viewers for IBM Enterprise Video Streaming accounts
For IBM Enterprise Video Streaming, authenticated viewer tracking replaces unique devices in this dataset.
These metrics appear together in the same row of the PDF report.
Metric Definitions
The report includes metric definitions in the appendix section to help readers understand how each value is calculated.
- Total views: Each playback of any type of media counts as one view. A view starts when the player begins playing media and ends when the viewer closes the tab. If the viewer reopens the player, it counts as a new view. Seeking or pausing remains part of the same view.
- Peak concurrent views: The maximum number of concurrent playbacks of live or recorded media during a given minute.
- Unique devices: The number of distinct viewers based on a persistent device identifier. Multiple views from the same device count as one unique device. If a viewer watches on multiple devices, each device is counted separately.
- Authenticated viewers: The number of distinct authenticated viewers who accessed the media, based on SSO ID for IBM Enterprise Video Streaming accounts. If a viewer watches content multiple times from different devices while logged in, they are still counted as one authenticated viewer. Shared accounts cannot be filtered out.
Viewing Time Dataset
The viewing time dataset allows you to include time-based engagement metrics in the PDF report.
Available viewing time metrics include:
- Total viewing time
- Combined viewing time across all viewers
- Average viewing time per viewer
Like the number of viewers dataset, viewing time metrics appear in the same row within the report.
Detailed Charts for Video Metrics
Detailed charts provide visual breakdowns of different video analytics. These charts can be added to the PDF report based on the reporting needs.
Currently, five detailed charts are available.
Concurrent Viewership
The concurrent viewership chart displays a line graph showing rises and drops in concurrent views over the selected period.
The chart also includes written data points showing the peak concurrent views and the exact minute when the peak occurred.
Viewership by Device
The viewership by device chart breaks down content viewership by device type, such as mobile and desktop.
This chart is displayed as a ring-style pie chart.
Global Viewership
The global viewership chart displays audience location data on a world map.
Countries are marked with circles that show the number of viewers based on unique device views in that location.
Below the map, the report lists the top 20 countries by unique device views.
United States Viewership
The United States viewership chart displays geographic viewership data within the United States.
The chart shows viewer activity by state using circles with the number of unique device views. The top 20 states are listed below the map.
Top Embed Sites
The top embed sites chart shows where viewers accessed the content.
This includes the default IBM Video Streaming channel page and any external locations where the player was embedded.
The chart is displayed as a bar chart using unique device views as the metric.
