Polls for Live Broadcasting

General Page

This article explains how to create, manage, and use live polls in IBM Video Streaming to increase audience engagement during broadcasts. It covers creating poll questions and answer choices, launching and stopping polls during live events, viewing real-time results, and archiving completed polls. The article also notes that polls are tied to a specific live stream and do not transfer to a backup channel during failover.

Polls for Live Broadcasting is a feature available in IBM Video Streaming that allows you to engage your audience with specific questions and receive real-time feedback.

Live audience polling can help broadcasters dynamically adapt live content based on viewer feedback, while also collecting valuable audience input.

Please note: Polls are bound to the specific live stream. If a backup channel is configured and replaces the primary channel, the poll will no longer appear for viewers.

Setting Up a Poll

  1. Log in to your IBM Video Streaming account.
  2. Select the channel where the poll should be applied.
  3. Click Interactivity.
  4. Click Details for Polls.
  5. If you have not created a poll yet, click Create Poll.

Create Poll Questions and Answers

  1. Enter the poll question at the top.
  2. Enter the answer options viewers can select from.
  3. Click Add Answer to add more answer options.
  4. You can add up to five answers.
  5. Click Save when finished.

After saving, you will return to the Polls page, where all created and saved polls are displayed.

Starting a Poll

  1. Select Interactivity.
  2. Click Details for Polls.
  3. Review the list of available polls on the Polls page.

When the channel is off air, the Start buttons cannot be clicked. When the channel is live, the Start buttons become available.

  2. Only one poll can be active at a time.
  3. After the poll starts, the Start button changes to Stop.
  4. Click Stop when you want to finish the poll.

Poll Experience in the Player

When a poll is started, a notification appears in the player.

When viewers click the notification, an overlay opens with the multiple-choice answers. After viewers submit their answers, they will see a confirmation message thanking them for taking the poll.

Viewing Poll Results

To view poll results in real time, click Results.

The selected poll results will be displayed on the results page.

You can archive old polls to make room for new ones.

Important: Once a poll is archived, it cannot be restored.

  1. Select the checkbox next to the poll you want to archive.
  2. Click Archive.
