CP4D 5.2.0 Watson Studio (WS) and Watson Machine Learning (WML) installation fails on FIPS-enabled clusters due to wdp-connect-flight pod restart

Troubleshooting

Problem

Cloud Pak for Data (CP4D) 5.2.0 installations involving Watson Studio (WS) and Watson Machine Learning (WML) fail on FIPS-enabled OpenShift clusters.

During installation, the wdp-connect-flight pod in the ibm-cpd namespace repeatedly restarts, preventing Cloud Connector Services (CCS) components from becoming ready. As a result, dependent services such as Watson Studio (WS) and Watson Machine Learning (WML) fail to complete installation successfully.

This issue is observed only on FIPS-enabled clusters and is reproducible consistently across multiple environments.

Symptom

Customers may observe the following symptoms:

  • wdp-connect-flight pod enters CrashLoopBackOff or restart loop.
  • CCS Custom Resource (CR) remains in a non-ready state.
  • Watson Studio (WS) and Watson Machine Learning (WML) operands fail to become ready.
  • Installation remains incomplete.

The following error is observed in the wdp-connect-flight pod logs:

Input stream does not contain valid private key.
java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Input stream does not contain valid private key.
