Error description
Enterprise COBOL V6.5 generates SYSADATA as RECFM=VB, but some records have non-zero RDW (Record Descriptor Word) bytes 3-4 (ZZ Bytes), where VB records are expected to have zeroes. The SYSADATA header and records after the RDW is valid and intact. This does not affect the content or use of SYSADATA files outside of any third party applications which verify the RDW is correct.
Local fix
Apply the IBM provided PTF
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of the Enterprise COBOL V6.5 * * compiler who are compiling with the SYSADATA * * option and later run an in-house developed * * application to verify that the RDWs for the * * RECFM=VB SYSADATA data set records contain * * zeros in bytes 3-4 (ZZ bytes). * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Although bytes 3-4 of the record * * descriptor words for a RECFM=VB data * * set are supposed to contain zeros, this * * problem does not prevent the compiler * * user from processing the SYSADATA data * * set. The SYSADATA header information is * * still 100% accurate, and the data * * contained in the data set records is * * still correct. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the IBM provided PTF * **************************************************************** Enterprise COBOL V6.5 generates SYSADATA as RECFM=VB, but some records have non-zero RDW (Record Descriptor Word) bytes 3-4 (ZZ Bytes), where VB records are expected to have zeroes. The SYSADATA header and records after the RDW is valid and intact. This does not affect the content or use of SYSADATA files outside of any third party applications which verify the RDW is correct.
Problem conclusion
The Record Descriptor Word for the RECFM=VB SYSADATA data set was stored in two variables, one for bytes 1-2 of the RDW containing the actual length of the variable length record, and a second variable for bytes 3-4 which was not required but was also not initialized. The compiler has been updated so that bytes 3-4 of the RDW is always initialized to zero, before the record is written to the SYSADATA data set.
Temporary fix
