Summary

Steps to restore a disk from an SCDM backup and attach it to a different VM.

Objective

A virtual machine currently has two disks. The requirement is to restore another VM’s disk and attach it to this target VM.

The restored disk will be added as an additional disk.

After the restore, the target VM will have three disks in total.

The restored disk will not replace Disk 1 or Disk 2 of the target VM.

Environment

IBM Storage Defender Copy Data Management Build Version 2.2.24

Steps

The Key steps are:

  • Access SCDM: Log in to your IBM Spectrum Copy Data Management interface. 
  • Locate the backup: Navigate to the backup set containing the VM you want to restore. 
  • Select VM: Select the specific virtual machine you need to restore from the list. 
  • Choose restore point: Select the desired backup version or point in time to restore from. 
  • Specify target location: Decide where you want to restore the VM, whether it's to its original location or a new one. 
  • Initiate restore: Click "Restore" or a similar option to start the restore process.
