How-to Change HCP Email Address

Problem

Introduction

It is currently not possible to change an existing user's email address. This applies to email/password user, SSO user, and some Github user types.

Workarounds

Email/Password

Invite the new email and create a new user.

SSO

Invite the new SSO user with the new email and a new user will be created.

If needed, the old SSO user can be deleted by the HCP account owner.

Github Primary Email

When a user signs up for HCP using their GitHub account, HCP associates the user’s primary GitHub email with their HCP account. To change the primary email in HCP, please update your GitHub primary email. Please note that the GitHub primary email must be verified on the GitHub end in order for the new email to reflect in HCP. See GitHub documentation on updating primary email addresses on their platform.

Please open a support ticket for additional assistance if you are experiencing HCP login issues after updating your GitHub primary email.

Ownership Change (Optional)

  • HCP organizations can have a maximum of 3 users with the owner role. Users with the existing owner role can add and remove other organization owners over time, but organizations require at least one owner at all times.
  • In the event of the current owner (owners) losing access to their account or leaving the company and not being able to further assist their colleagues with the ownership changes, please follow the steps listed in How-to Request HCP Ownership Changes.
