APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • CICS region reached MAX TASK and no further work could be
processed.

Many tasks were in socket wait for resource type
DSWC, resource name S8TLSHS. All S8TLSHS slots were in use.

It was observed that S8TLSHS slots were not being released,
resulting in a leak and tasks remaining in a wait state.

This led to a buildup of tasks and a CICS stall condition.

*                      during TLS handshake.                   *
****************************************************************
CICS is processing HTTP TLS requests. During TLS handshake
processing, tasks acquire an S8TLSHS slot before switching to an
S8 TCB. If the change mode to an S8 TCB fails, the S8TLSHS slot
is not released.  This can lead to a shortage of S8TLSHS slots
meaning tasks end up stuck in DSWC waits for the S8TLSHS
resource.

    



Problem conclusion


    

  • CICS has been changed to correctly release S8TLSHS slots when a
change mode fails.
