Objective
This technote provides detailed instructions for returning existing licenses and generating new license files in the IBM License Key Center. It provides the essential steps, key checks, and common issues to watch out for, helping ensure new licenses are issued correctly and without entitlement errors.

Step 1: Returning your license key(s)
There are 2 options to return a license key:
Option 1:
1. Login to the License Key Center.
2. Go to Return Keys > select the product, "IBM Engineering Requirements Management DOORS"
3. Select the License key name, IBM ENGINEERING REQUIREMENTS MANAGEMENT DOORS.
4. Look for the generated key(s) for the host that you'd like to return and select the "Return" button.
Option 2:
1. View keys by host > select the hostname “xxxx” or search for the hostname
2. Select “Change” for the product of the key you want to return
3. Locate the generated key(s) associated with the host you intend to return, and select the “Return” button.
Step 2: Generate your new license key(s)
1. Navigate to Get Keys in the IBM License Key Center, then select the product “IBM Engineering Requirements Management DOORS.”
2. Select the License key name, IBM ENGINEERING REQUIREMENTS MANAGEMENT DOORS.
3. Select the order(s) with licenses available and select next
4. Enter the number of keys as well as the host details and select "Generate".
5. Review the license key and proceed to download. Should you require to generate additional licenses for other products, please see the information below.
If you need to generate additional licenses for other products on the same license server or machine, do not download the license file yet. Instead, repeat Steps 1–4 under Generate Keys as many times as required. The licenses will accumulate as you go.
At this stage, you can select “Use existing host” and choose the previously entered host details.
You can also generate license keys across multiple accounts by using the same host details. The entitlements will accumulate, and the final downloaded license file will include all licenses generated across those accounts.
Recommendation: Copy and reuse the host details, as you will need to enter them separately for each License Key Center account. Note that these details are case‑sensitive.
Additional Information
- Do not manually modify the host information in the license file. If the host information needs to be changed—such as when moving the server or correcting an incorrect host value—you must return the existing license(s) in the IBM License Key Center and regenerate the key(s) with the correct host details. Otherwise, the system will produce an error.
