IBM z17 delivers a significant refactoring of the platform’s I/O subsystem with the introduction of the IBM Telum II Data Processing Unit (DPU) for I/O acceleration. This paper focuses on evaluating the latest generation of storage and networking adapters—specifically FICON Express32G-4P and Network Express —designed to fully exploit the capabilities of the IBM z17 DPU. Together, these advances deliver improved performance and greater overall I/O subsystem capacity.
