Question & Answer
Question
Does Control Center support the use of cloud‑hosted database services, such as Amazon RDS or Azure SQL Database?
Answer
- Cloud-based databases, engineered systems (such as Oracle Exadata), and other variants of supported database platforms are supported for use with the Control Center product within the guidelines outlined below. Due to the wide variety of service tiers, configurations, deployment models, and platform-specific features, these environments have not been fully or formally tested.
- If a database-related issue is suspected, Control Center support will work with the Customer to diagnose and isolate the issue at the application level. The Customer is responsible for leveraging their applicable database vendor and/or cloud provider support agreements to assist in debugging and resolving database- or platform-specific issues, including coordination with vendor support as needed.
- Database tuning (beyond basic instructions provided by the product team) is the responsibility of the Customer.
- Database performance issues related to platform-specific, engineered system, or cloud-managed features (for example, advanced storage, query offload, compression, workload management, or similar capabilities) are the responsibility of the Customer and/or the database vendor or cloud provider.
- Control Center supports database functionality that is consistent with the database vendor’s base on-premises database offerings. Platform-specific extensions, engineered-system features, or managed-service enhancements are assumed to be compatible only insofar as they do not alter base database behavior.
- The Customer must be able to configure all Control Center-required database settings and parameters (as with all other supported databases).
- The Customer remains responsible for performing all documented database maintenance required by the Control Center product.
- Support for cloud-based, engineered, or variant database configurations is provided on a best-effort basis where behavior differs from tested environments, with the assumption that such environments are functionally compatible with the vendor’s base database offering.
- Limitations imposed by managed database services or engineered platforms (such as restricted access to system settings, parameters, or administrative functions) may impact diagnostics, tuning, or overall supportability.
- Issues determined to be caused by database platform features, configurations, service limitations, or environmental constraints may require resolution by the Customer and/or the database vendor or cloud provider.
