DOORS 9.7.2.11 – DOORS Server (64 bit) and DOORS client (64 bit) on same machine

Troubleshooting

Problem

In DOORS fixpack release 9.7.2.11, we upgraded the DOORS server from 32 bit to 64 bit. DOORS client is 64 bits already. DOORS server and client have few common dynamic library components and when both installed on same machine components conflicts.

Cause

The root cause appears to be that when the client is installed after the server, it registers the latest path for shared components. Consequently, during uninstallation, it removes the shared binaries from the latest installation directory path instead of the server’s which leading to inconsistencies.

Resolving The Problem

This is a known issue in 9.7.2.11 that, when both DOORS Server and DOORS client is installed on same machine and uninstalled the 64-bit server. However, following is the workaround is identified for this issue:

Workaround:

  1. Uninstall both 64-bit server and client if any issue arise due to both server and client on same machine.
  2. Install the DOORS server (64 bit) first
  3. Install the DOORS client (64 bit) after 64-bit server installation successful
