    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTF. *
    ****************************************************************
    1. JCL Expert does not support JCL checking for standalone
cataloged procedures. JCL Expert issues error CXPS0503E,
since it sees the cataloged procedure as a job with a
missing JOB statement. The rest of the JCL is processed as
if it is a part of a job and not a cataloged procedure.

    2. JCL Expert checks for unresolved symbols at the parameter
level and the sub-parameter level. When a symbol is found
at the sub-parameter level, the warning is issued twice.

    3. JCL Expert calls the preprocessor on the input text and
then validates the output from the preprocessor as if it is
the original source text. The ISPF interface doesn't
re-display the preprocessor output because it operates as if
it is the original text displayed in the ISPF edit session.
Similarly, the JCL Expert z/OS UNIX text output only
displays the validated text and not the original text.

    4. REXX is not recognized as a valid output mode for the JCL
       Expert z/OS UNIX -o parameter.

    5. Aggregate JCL statements are displayed after the first
line of JCL in the statement, making it unclear which of
the following lines of JCL are part of the statement.

    6. Comments and unreachable JCL statements are highlighted
in the same way as validated JCL statements.

    7. IZWS substitution for &OJOBNAME is not coded in JCL Expert's
       call to EQQAAPI.

    8. If the IZWS variable substitution fails, the error messages
that IZWS generates stay in JCL Expert's debug log and are
       not issued to the user.

    9. The syntax of INCLUDE statements is not validated.
If the INCLUDE statement contains a valid MEMBER=name
specification, it is processed, but the INCLUDE statement
may fail if the job is run.

    10. When a GDG generation is deleted, JCL Expert incorrectly
assumes that the GDG base has been deleted and the
        dataset no longer exists.

    11. JCL Expert incorrectly counts DD instream data statements
        towards the JCL statement count.

    12. JCL Expert truncates the DSN for GDGs when checking for
the existence of the GDG base after a delete in a previous
step, causing JCL Expert to incorrectly assume that the
        GDG base does not exist.

Problem conclusion

  • 1. JCL Expert now validates standalone cataloged procedures.

    2. Message CXPS0718W is issued once at the parameter level.

    3. The source text is now displayed, followed by the
preprocessor output if it differs from the source text.

    4. The JCL Expert z/OS UNIX line command now accepts and
correctly processes the -o REXX parameter.

    5. Aggregate statements are displayed after the last line of
input JCL. The aggregate statement is only shown for JCL
statements split over 2 or more lines and shows the
       preprocessor text.

    6. The color coding has been enhanced to better distinguish
       different types of data.

    7. The &OJOBNAME parameter is now passed to EQQAPI, allowing it
to be substituted by the IZWS preprocessor.
The value will be either the first job's jobname or
the constant 'JOBNAME' if the job's jobname is coded as
       &OJOBNAME.

    8. Any unrecognized error messages from IZWS during variable
substitution will be output at the end of the JCL analysis
       report as product messages.

    9. Syntax checking has been added for INCLUDE statements.

    10. JCL Expert no longer issues error CXPS0460E when validating
JCL that references a GDG generation when the GDG base
        exists.

    11. JCL Expert now excludes lines of instream data from the
        total statement count.

    12. JCL Expert now correctly reads the entire DSN for the GDG
        generation.
