Error description

  • After the upgrade to version 8.1.27.100 of the IBM Storage
Protect server in a library sharing environment, the library
    client fails to locate

the home position of an empty tape when the DRIVEEncryption is
ON in the device class. This issue happens with IBM tape
    devices.

The failure message can be found in the server activity log as

Unknown result code (2882) from pvrGetHomePos.

    platforms

Local fix

  • Issue the UPDATE DEVCLASS command with DRIVEEncryption=OFF to
    change the DRIVE encryption.
But before setting DRIVEEncryption to OFF, change all existing
DEVCLASS tape volumes to READONLY, and adjust the MAXSCRatch
value of the STGPOOLs to zero (0) to be sure that no new
    scratch tape will be used.
Then manually define some of the existing scratch tape to the
    needed STGPOOLs.
This will ensure that these and only these tapes will be used to

    store non encrypted data.
Keep track of the non encrypted tapes.
After fix has been installed, review what are the non encrypted
tapes and then change the MAXSCRatch value,
and a MOVE DATA command may be needed to move from non
    encrypted volumes to encrypted volumes.
