Storage Protect Snapshot for Windows:
 

• Existing backups created using previous versions of Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager for Windows can be restored using Spectrum Protect Snapshot 8.1 for Windows within the constraints of the platforms and applications supported by the 8.1 release.

• New backups created with Spectrum Protect Snapshot 8.1 for Windows cannot be restored using previous versions of Spectrum Protect Snapshot for Windows.

• The following hardware platforms supported with Spectrum Protect Snapshot 4.1 for Windows are no longer supported with the 8.1 release.
  • No hardware platforms were dropped with the 8.1 release.

• The following operating systems supported with Spectrum Protect Snapshot 4.1 for Windows are no longer supported with the 8.1 release.
  • 32-bit Windows Server 2008 SP2
  • 64-bit Windows Server 2008 SP2
  • 64-bit Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1

If you are using these operating system releases, you can not upgrade to Spectrum Protect Snapshot 8.1. You may continue to use Spectrum Protect Snapshot 4.1.x for the Support Lifecycle of the Spectrum Protect Snapshot 4.1 release.

 

• The following application supported with Spectrum Protect Snapshot for Microsoft SQL Server 4.1 is no longer supported with the 8.1 release:
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 SP3
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2012
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2014 (32 bit)

If you are using these application releases, you can not upgrade to Spectrum Protect Snapshot for Microsoft SQL Server 8.1. You may continue to use Spectrum Protect Snapshot for Microsoft SQL Server 4.1.x for the Support Lifecycle of the Spectrum Protect Snapshot 4.1 release.
 

• The following application supported with Spectrum Protect Snapshot for Microsoft Exchange Server 4.1 is no longer supported with the 8.1 release:
  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2010

If you are using this application release, you can not upgrade to Spectrum Protect Snapshot for Microsoft Exchange Server 8.1. You may continue to use Spectrum Protect Snapshot for Microsoft Exchange Server 4.1.x for the Support Lifecycle of the Spectrum Protect Snapshot 4.1 release.


Storage Protect Snapshot for UNIX:
 

• Existing backups created using previous releases of Storage Protect Snapshot for UNIX can be restored using Storage Protect Snapshot 8.2.0 for UNIX within the constraints of the platforms and applications supported by the 8.2.0 release.

• New backups created with Storage Protect Snapshot 8.2.0 for UNIX cannot be restored using previous versions of Spectrum Protect Snapshot for UNIX.

• The following hardware platform supported with Spectrum Protect Snapshot 4.1 for UNIX is no longer supported with the 8.2.0 release.
  • IBM System Storage N Series and NetApp hardware

If you are using this hardware platform, you can either

• continue to use Spectrum Protect Snapshot 4.1.x for the Support Lifecycle of the Spectrum Protect Snapshot 4.1 release or
• use the Rocket Device Adapter Pack for IBM Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager together with Storage Protect Snapshot 8.2.0 for UNIX.

• The following operating systems supported with Spectrum Protect Snapshot 4.1 for UNIX are no longer supported with the 8.2.0 release.
  • AIX 6.1
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5
  • HP-UX
  • Solaris SPARC

If you are using these operating systems, you can not upgrade to Storage Protect Snapshot 8.2.0. You may continue to use Spectrum Protect Snapshot 4.1.x for the Support Lifecycle of the Spectrum Protect Snapshot 4.1 release.
 

• The following applications supported with Spectrum Protect Snapshot for DB2 4.1 are no longer supported with the 8.2.0 release:
  • 64-bit DB2 Enterprise Server Edition V9.7
  • DB2 pureScale
  • 64-bit Oracle Database Standard Edition 11gR1
  • 64-bit Oracle Database Enterprise Edition 11gR1
  • SAP BR*Tools 7.10
  • SAP BR*Tools 7.20

If you are using these application releases, you can not upgrade to Storage Protect Snapshot 8.2.0. You may continue to use Spectrum Protect Snapshot 4.1.x for the Support Lifecycle of the Spectrum Protect Snapshot 4.1 release.
