Steps to Restore a Corrupted ESA-client

Troubleshooting

Problem

The ESA Client is corrupted. This prevents the system from performing remote system registration (for Dell, HP, or Lenovo devices) and disables trap handling capabilities.

Symptom

  • ESA-client does not function as expected.
  • Remote system registration fails (Dell, HP, Lenovo systems).
  • Traps are not processed or transmitted.

Cause

Corruption in ESA-client files or configuration due to:

  • Incomplete updates.
  • File system issues.
  • Manual changes or accidental deletion.

Environment

AIX

Linux

MVS

Diagnosing The Problem

  • Try sending a test problem or register a remote server (HP,DELL,Lenovo)
  • Inspect /opt/ibm/esaclient/logs/trace.log  for errors:
  • If corruption is confirmed, proceed with restoration steps.

Resolving The Problem

  1. Perform a backup of /opt/ibm/esaclient directory.

  2. Uninstall the ESA-client rpm using the following command:
    rpm -e <esaclient rpm>
  3. Install ESA-client from CS-ESA UI.
  4. Copy the conf folder from backup (which is taken in step 1 above) to /opt/ibm/esaclient directory.
  5. Copy the data folder from backup (which is taken in step 1) to /opt/ibm/esaclient.
  6. Ensure that ESA-client is restored successfully by verifying:
    1. All Systems tab to verify all registered systems.
    2. All details under Manage Configuration tab.
    3. Check the problem creation for one of the remote systems.
