Error description
During the delete operation for catalog statistics history tables by running Modify STATISTICS DELETE AGE(*), the CF lock structure for IRLM was filled. This caused the thread in DSNB5RDP to be blocked/suspended and abending with ABND=04E -00E40085,U=TECDHKT0,M=N,C=131.UTIL-UTILINIT,M=DSNTFRCV, LOC=DSNUTILA.DSNUGUCA+02636
Local fix
Change the deletion criteria on their MODIFY STATISTICS invocations to decrease the number of rows deleted, for example DELETE ALL AGE (15) instead of DELETE ALL AGE (*). Increase the space in the CF lock structure
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All Db2 13 for z/OS utility users of * * MODIFY STATISTICS deleting history * * statistics with APAR PH63145/UI98945 * * applied * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: ABEND04E RC00E40085 in DSNUGUCA * * OFFSET02636 during MODIFY STATISTICS * * DELETE ALL AGE(*) execution with APAR * * PH63145 / UI98945 applied * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: Apply corrective PTF when available * **************************************************************** With APAR PH63145/ UI98945 applied, when MODIFY STATISTICS DELETE ALL AGE(*) is executed the utility abnormally terminates with ABEND04E RC00E40085 in DSNUGUCA + x'02636'. Message DXR142E was issued indicating that there was a storage shortage for the CF lock structure. PH63145 added logic to deactivate lock escalation for the MODIFY STATISTICS utility. The effect is that row locks will continue to be acquired for each row deleted in the catalog statistics history tables processed even if the number of locks exceeds the subsystem parameter NUMLKUS value. The ABEND04E RC00E40085 and the storage shortage in the CF lock structure can occur when: - the deletion criteria specified for MODIFY STATISTICS results in a large number of statistics history catalog table rows deleted, i.e., DELETE AGE(*) - the storage allocated for the CF lock structure is small. Problem conclusion
The code has been modified to enable lock escalation during MODIFY STATISTICS execution. When the number of row locks reaches the NUMLKUS limit, then the gross lock on the table space will be acquired and all of the row locks will be released.
