Abstract
Upgrading or installing IBM Guardium Data Protection Windows Software TAP (S-TAP) 12.1.19.195, 12.0.1.295, 11.5.10.478 agents might cause Windows Server becomes inaccessible when using RDP or Netview.

Issue description
Due to recent changes, customers who deployed Guardium Windows S-TAP 12.1.19.195, 12.0.1.295, 11.5.10.478 might experience server instability. This event is triggered when user tries to access Windows STAP using RDP. Customer experiencing this problem will ran into below error message as shown in the below attachment:

Remediation
The IBM Guardium team implemented modifications to the STAP Named Pipes proxy driver to resolve an issue that could potentially result in Remote Procedure Call (RPC) failures. To apply the fix, a system reboot is required following the upgrade to the corrected STAP version, as the update involves changes to the driver. You are advised to deploy the new Windows S-TAP agents that are uploaded to Fix Central website.
- For base version 12.1: Windows S-TAP 12.1.23.241 (see release note)
- For base version 12.0: Windows S-TAP 12.0.5.366 (see release note)
- For base version 11.5: Windows S-TAP 11.5.10.495 (see release note)
If you already deployed one of the affected Windows S-TAP agents, you could apply the following methods to deploy the fixed Windows S-TAP agent.
Method 1: Using windows S-TAP upgrade
- Log in to the database server where the S-TAP agent is installed.
- Use the GUI installer or Guardium Installation Manager (GIM) to upgrade the Windows S-TAP agent to the new one
- Reboot your database server immediately after you upgrade Windows S-TAP.
Method 2: For a large collection of servers
- Log in to the collector.
- Navigate to the GIM "Set up by client" page.
- Select the S-TAP clients and upgrade the database server to the new Windows S-TAP
- Reboot your database server immediately after you upgrade Windows S-TAP.
