How To
Summary
If you have DEP devices whose control has been removed from MaaS360 but still appear under DEP in MaaS360, and the device still shows "Remote Management" owned by your organisation, and you want to free them for personal use, resale, or other purposes, you will need to "release" them in Apple Business Manager® (ABM).
Objective
How to Release a Device from the Apple Business Manager® Portal.
Environment
DEP IOS Devices
Steps
1. Log in to your Apple Business Manager account.
2. Navigate to "Devices" and search for the DEP serial number of the device you want to remove.
3. Once you find the device, select it.
4. In the top right corner, click on the three dots and select "Release from Organisation."

5. Select the checkbox if you wish to remove this device from Apple Business Manager and continue.

6. Release from organisation.

7. Finally, you would see the Device was successfully released.

To verify this, you can check the Maas360 portal by navigating to Devices > Enrollments > Other Enrollment Options > Apple > Apple Device DEP. Search for the IOS device's serial number; it should no longer appear in your list of DEP serial numbers.
