IBM MaaS360® App Catalog Migration: Transition to the Native Experience

Abstract

IBM® MaaS360® is upgrading and enhancing the mobile app experience by upgrading from the web-based IBM® MaaS360® App Catalog to the native Enterprise IBM® MaaS360® App Catalog for iOS and iPadOS devices (15.0 or later). This upgrade provides users with a more seamless and secure way to discover, install, and update enterprise applications. By simplifying access and improving performance, the native app catalog helps ensure a consistent experience across all supported devices and platforms.

In July 2025, IBM® MaaS360® announced the availability of the new native Enterprise IBM® MaaS360® App Catalog on the App Store. This intuitive native enterprise app catalog is designed for iOS and iPadOS devices (15.0 or later). It centralizes app management, enhances security, simplifies deployment workflows, and enables better version control and scalability ultimately driving improved productivity across the organization.

The new native Enterprise IBM® MaaS360® App Catalog is the default App Catalog for all new IBM® MaaS360® customers, effective 30 September 2025.
 

Important: 

  • Dual App Catalog access during transition period: Users can access both the existing web-based App Catalog and the new native Enterprise IBM® MaaS360®  App Catalog during the transition period. After 5 January 2026, the web-based App Catalog will be removed from all devices. While both App Catalogs can be used to install apps during the transition, IBM® MaaS360® recommends using the new Enterprise IBM® MaaS360® App Catalog for a better user experience and enhanced functions.
  • New device enrollment: After migration, all new device enrollments receive only the new native Enterprise IBM® MaaS360® App Catalog, ensuring consistency with updated profiles and a modern app experience.
 

Compatibility

IBM® MaaS360® currently supports both web-based and native Enterprise App Catalog.

  • Native Enterprise IBM® MaaS360® App Catalog: Compatible with iOS/iPadOS 15.0 or later.
  • Web-based  IBM® MaaS360® App Catalog (version 3.0): Compatible with iOS/iPadOS 14.0 or earlier.
 
Migration timeline
 
  • Start date: 3 November 2025
  • End date: 28 November 2025

Important: The web-based IBM® MaaS360® App Catalog for iOS or iPadOS devices that runs version 15.0 or later will be deprecated effective from 28 November 2025.

Administrator action in the IBM® MaaS360® portal

Important: The application requires a Volume Purchase Program (VPP) license, else users will be prompted to sign into the Apple App Store to install. 

Follow these steps to add VPP licenses.

  1. Open Apple Business Manager.
  2. Enter the Apple ID and password to sign in to the account.
  3. On the Apps and Books section, search for the IBM MaaS360 App Catalog, and assign it to your location from the list.
  4. Enter the required number of licenses and click Get.

Note: Administrator action is applicable only if App Compliance is already configured in your environment.

User action on the device

For non-supervised devices running iOS/iPadOS 15.0 or later:

  • You’ll receive a prompt to install the native Enterprise IBM MaaS360App Catalog.
  • Tap Install and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • After installation, the IBM® MaaS360® App Catalog  image-20251008142737-1 icon appears on your home screen.

If installation fails, contact IBM support.

 

Branding customization options in the native Enterprise IBM MaaS360 App Catalog

You can customize the branding options. Here is the list of supported and unsupported branding customization options.

  • Supported options:
    • App Catalog Text
    • App Catalog Welcome Message
    • App Catalog Welcome Image
  • Unsupported options:
    • App Catalog name and icon
    • App Catalog Enterprise App label
    • App Catalog default tile/image for Welcome, Starter Kit, Latest Apps, Most Downloaded, Highest Rated Apps, and WorkPlace Apps
    • Splash screen image
