Security Bulletin

Summary

IBM Cloud Red Hat Openshift AI Addon is affected by a security vulnerability in the Red Hat Openshift AI operator. A low-privileged attacker with access to an authenticated account, for example as a data scientist using a standard Jupyter notebook, can escalate their privileges to a full cluster administrator. This allows for the complete compromise of the cluster's confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Vulnerability Details

CVEID: CVE-2025-10725
Description: A flaw was found in Red Hat Openshift AI Service. A low-privileged attacker with access to an authenticated account, for example as a data scientist using a standard Jupyter notebook, can escalate their privileges to a full cluster administrator. This allows for the complete compromise of the cluster's confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The attacker can steal sensitive data, disrupt all services, and take control of the underlying infrastructure, leading to a total breach of the platform and all applications hosted on it.
CWE: CWE-266: Incorrect Privilege Assignment
CVSS Base Score: 9.9
CVSS Vector: CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:H

Affected Products and Versions

IBM Cloud Red Hat Openshift AI Addon 4.16.0.0_424 - 4.16.2.5_598
IBM Cloud Red Hat Openshift AI Addon 4.17.0.0_533

Remediation/Fixes

The fixes 4.16.3.0_671 and 4.17.0.2_672, released 7th October 2025, will be applied to customers' clusters automatically, if the customer has set the InstallPlanApproval to Automatic.

If the customer has set the InstallPlanApproval to Manual then the install plan must be approved to apply the fix.

To verify your cluster is no longer exposed to vulnerability run

oc describe subs -n redhat-ods-operator rhods-operator
If the Current CSV and Installed CSV is showing rhods-operator.2.22.2 then you are no longer exposed to the vulnerability.

Disclaimer

According to the Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams (FIRST), the Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) is an "industry open standard designed to convey vulnerability severity and help to determine urgency and priority of response." IBM PROVIDES THE CVSS SCORES ""AS IS"" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, INCLUDING THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. CUSTOMERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ASSESSING THE IMPACT OF ANY ACTUAL OR POTENTIAL SECURITY VULNERABILITY. In addition to other efforts to address potential vulnerabilities, IBM periodically updates the record of components contained in our product offerings. As part of that effort, if IBM identifies previously unidentified packages in a product/service inventory, we address relevant vulnerabilities regardless of CVE date. Inclusion of an older CVEID does not demonstrate that the referenced product has been used by IBM since that date, nor that IBM was aware of a vulnerability as of that date. We are making clients aware of relevant vulnerabilities as we become aware of them. "Affected Products and Versions" referenced in IBM Security Bulletins are intended to be only products and versions that are supported by IBM and have not passed their end-of-support or warranty date. Thus, failure to reference unsupported or extended-support products and versions in this Security Bulletin does not constitute a determination by IBM that they are unaffected by the vulnerability. Reference to one or more unsupported versions in this Security Bulletin shall not create an obligation for IBM to provide fixes for any unsupported or extended-support products or versions.
