APAR status

  • Closed as new function.

Error description

  • This APAR contains the following new functions:

    EQDIO vNIC Simulation
    --------------------------
Support is provided for creating simulated EQDIO adapters (via
DEFINE NIC or NICDEF) and coupling them to a virtual switch
operating in QDIO ETHERNET mode. Simulated EQDIO adapters and
simulated QDIO adapters can coexist on the same virtual switch.

    EQDIO Multi-VSWITCH Link Aggregation
    ---------------------------------------------
Support is provided for using EQDIO adapters in a Multi-VSWICH
    Link Aggregation configuration.

    ****************************************************************
With the applicable PTFs and firmware D61C Bundle 15 applied,
z/VM will provide support for the following:

    EQDIO Multi-VSWITCH Link Aggregation (MVLAG)
    - EQDIO (OSH) devices can now be used for Global (cross-LPAR)
      and IVL (cross-CEC) VSWITCHes
      - IVL support provided for either EQDIO port groups or single
        RDEV configurations.
    - Device configuration limits are the same as for QDIO MVLAG
      - 4 Global VSWITCHes in an LPAR can share a port group
      - IVL cannot use the same devices as Global VSWITCHes
    - No new or changed externals

    EQDIO Virtual NICs
    - New EQDIO NIC type available on the NICDEF user directory
      statement and DEFINE NIC command
    - EQDIO virtual NICs connect to a QDIO virtual switch
      - VSWITCH uplink port can be either QDIO or EQDIO
      - VSWITCH must be configured in layer 2 (ETHERNET) mode
      - EQDIO and QDIO virtual NICs can coexist on the same
        virtual switch
    - This support allows z/OS guests to connect to a virtual
switch which uses an EQDIO uplink port

    Help File Updates
    - Help files associated with (but not delivered with) APAR
VM66850 (VM Disablement and Discovery of TX) are also
      included here
