When to reboot after installing or upgrading to Guardium 12.2 Linux-UNIX S-TAP
To view full traffic, certain databases must be restarted after you upgrade to Guardium 12.2 from the following S-TAP versions. You must stop your database before you upgrade, or restart the database after you upgrade if traffic stopped capturing. The affected S-TAP versions are:
- STAP-11.5.4.1_r115368_1
- STAP-12.0.0.0_r115418_v12_0_1
For more information, see Linux-UNIX: What to restart or reboot on the database server after installing or updating S-TAP
New features and enhancements
S-TAP-side Kerberos session correlation
A new configuration parameter collaborate_kerberos_enabled has been introduced to allow Linux-UNIX S-TAP to optionally perform Kerberos session correlation locally. This allows for faster correlation of kerberos authenticated sessions enhancing the ability to accurately trigger session level policy that relies on login information.

Seamless S-TAP upgrade with A-TAP continuity
S-TAP upgrades no longer require A-TAP deactivation, enabling uninterrupted traffic capture and session monitoring during the upgrade process. This enhancement ensures that sessions are monitored by S-TAP continuously during live upgrade, helping to maintain database visibility and reduce operational risk. Note: Both the from and to versions of S-TAP and A-TAP must support the live-update functionality for this feature to work as intended.
Enterprise load balancer support for Oracle ASO traffic
Oracle Advanced Security Option (ASO) A-TAP traffic can now be distributed across multiple collectors using the enterprise load balancer feature. This enhancement prevents any single collector from being overwhelmed and ensures that all traffic for a single sessions is reporting to an appropriate collector, avoiding potential loss of session information.
Internal load balancer enhancement
The internal load balancer (ILB), introduced in version 12.1, helps prevent data loss by monitoring collector load and dynamically redirecting traffic to balance it in near real time. In version 12.2, enhancements to this feature provide customers with a more complete experience. A new failover mechanism improves data integrity as it is rebalanced while the improved load balancing mechanism ensuring data is not lost due to overflow. Additionally, S-TAP has the capability to request additional managed units (MUs) when all assigned sniffers reach capacity. This is controlled using a new parameter, initial_load_balancer_num_mus, alongside the existing load_balancer_num_mus. At startup, both parameters are set to the same value, but when more capacity is needed, load_balancer_num_mus is incremented to request additional MUs from the load balancer.
Modify inspection engines with guard-config-update
The guard-config-update S-TAP script, used to update S-TAP configuration without the use of the Guardium UI or the need to access the database server where S-TAP resides, now updates inspection engines using new parameters: --show-ie, --add-ie, and --remove-ie.

Automatic discovery of MongoDB instances
MongoDB has been added to auto-discovery feature allowing for automative configurations of the MongoDB inspection engine to monitor data access and activities.
MongoDB has been added to auto-discovery feature allowing for automative configurations of the MongoDB inspection engine to monitor data access and activities.
Backup load balancer assignment
S-TAP now supports backup load balancer configuration to maintain uninterrupted operation. A new parameter, load_balancer_backup_ip, allows S-TAP to automatically redirect load balancing requests to a secondary load balancer if the primary (load_balancer_ip) becomes unavailable.
Custom S-TAP bundles in GIM setup by client
The setup by client screen that allows S-TAP installation and selection of bundles, now includes custom bundles as part of the list of latest bundles. To enable this functionality the checkbox to display only the latest as well as the "include custom bundles" checkbox need to be selected. For more information, see Installing the S-TAP client with GIM Setup by Client and gim_assign_latest_bundle_or_module_to_client

Known limitations and workarounds
| Issue key | Summary |
|---|---|
| GRD-99873 | S-TAP traffic capture for IBM Db2 on Solaris 5.10 might occasionally be incomplete. As a result, some queries might not be logged and are missing from reports. No workaround is currently available. |
|
GRD-104759
|
DataStax Cassandra remote traffic queries are not logged in the Full SQL report when configured with DataStax auditing for a non-existing database. The query is logged in the SQL ERROR report instead. No workaround is currently available.
|
| GRD-105535 | Oceanbase Oracle mode redaction is not currently supported in Guardium 12.2. |
|
GRD-106202
|
Some login errors may be missed as application-level response errors in HTTP/1 traffic aren't analyzed due to their non-standard nature. Only responses with HTTP/1 500 error codes are recognized as login failures.
|
| GRD-108710 |
Since the following platforms do not support updated SSL ciphers that are required to negotiate a secure connection in FIPS 140-3 mode with a Guardium 12.2 managed unit, aggregator, or stand-alone collector, they must fall back to using an unencrypted connection:
|
|
GRD-109484
|
While attempting to create an OceanBase datasource in Oracle mode for S-TAP verification, the connection fails, preventing the datasource from being created successfully.
