How To
Summary
The Work with RTVDIRINF Data (WRKDIRINF) tool lists data collections created using RTVDIRINF on the current system, and provides options for: displaying information about each collection, generating reports from collection data, and starting new collections.
Steps
If you don't already have the IBM i Support MustGather tools installed, or it's not up to date, please see the following document for install and update instructions - https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/645929
The Work with RTVDIRINF Data tool can be initiated from the Must Gather Data Collector menu -
GO QMGTOOLS/MG => Internals => Storage Management Menu => Permanent Storage Menu => Work with RTVDIRINF collections
You can also access the tool directly - QMGTOOLS/WRKDIRINF
The Work with Retrieved Directory Information tool screen looks like this:

Total storage used by collections: This is the total size of all the RTVDIRINF files for the collections listed in the table.
Options:
- Delete: Use this option to delete the selected RTVDIRINF collection(s). When you choose this option and press the Enter key, the Confirm Delete of RTVDIRINF Collection Data display is shown. This display allows you to confirm the deletion before any files are deleted. Each collection consists of two files, a directory file and an object file, both will be deleted using this option.

- Display details: Shows details about the collection, such as - storage size, storage used, collection totals, collection files, etc.

- Create report: Use this option to run the QMGTOOLS/QRYDIRINF command to generate a report from the selected collection data.
Type of report:

- *DIR - Generate a report from RTVDIRINF data that lists directories by size. Note that for library objects, libraries and DB files are considered directories. The report will show size, Auxiliary Storage Pool (ASP), and the directory path name.
- *OBJ - Generate a report from RTVDIRINF data that lists objects by size. The report will show the size, object type, ASP, and object path name.
- *ALL - Show both IFS and library objects the report.
- *IFS - Only show IFS objects in the report.
- *LIB - Only show library objects in the report.
- *ANY - Generate a report from the collection data using data in any ASP. *ANY should be used when generating a report from data collected from an IASP.
- 1-32 - Specify the ASP number for generating a report only showing data from that ASP.
- '/' - The default value of '/' (root) will not subset the data.
- path-name - Specify the path name for subsetting the collection data to a desired path. For example, if you run a directory report and find one particular directory that is very large, you can then run an object report and specify that large directory path name to generate a report that only shows the objects in that directory.
Collections:
- Collection date & time: Date and time when the collection was started. If the date and time are blank, the collection is incomplete. Either the collection is still running or it ended without completing.
- Collection library & name: Library containing the RTVDIRINF collection data, and the data file prefix name. The collection name can be up to 9 characters with the actual data file names starting with the collection prefix and appended with "D" for the directory file, and "O" for the object file.
- Path specified in RTVDIRINF: Starting path specified on the RTVDIRINF collection. If the path name is more than 32 characters, a greater-than symbol ">" will be shown next to the name at the right edge of the screen. Function key 22 can be used to display the full path name.
- Collection file size: Total size of the two collection files in bytes.
Function Keys:
- F3/F12: Exit the WRKDIRINF tool back to the prior menu or command line.
- F5: Refresh the list of collections.
- F6: Start new collection. This allows you to submit a new collection using the QMGTOOLS/STRRTVDIR command.
Type of collection:

- *ALL - Collects information about all IFS objects and all library objects in the specified ASP.
- *IFS - Only collects IFS information for the specified ASP by omitting the /QSYS.LIB directory.
- *LIBRARY - Only collects library object information for the specified ASP by setting the starting directory to /QSYS.LIB.
- *CUSTOM - Provides additional parameters for selecting a starting directory, and listing directories to be omitted as seen on the RTVDIRINF command.
- *GEN - The database files will be created with a unique prefix generated by this command. The prefix will begin with QAEZD followed by four digits. The files created to store the collected information will be named using this prefix followed by either the letter 'D' (for the file which contains directory information) or the letter 'O' (for the file that contains information about objects in directories). For example, the first time the command is run with *GEN specified, files QAEZD0001D and QAEZD0001O will be created in the library specified by the LIB parameter. Informational message CPI1E30 will be sent to the job log and will contain the names of the files created.
- name - Specify the file name prefix to use for creating the database files used to store the collected directory information. The prefix can be up to nine letters. The files created to store the collected information will be named using this prefix followed by either the letter 'D' (for the file which contains directory information) or the letter 'O' (for the file that contains information about objects in directories). For example, if the prefix specified is MYDIR, database files MYDIRD and MYDIRO will be created in the library specified by the LIB parameter.
- *SYSBAS - Directory information is collected from the System ASP and user ASPs (ASPs 1 through 32).
- name - Specify the name of the Independent ASP device for which directory information should be collected.
Directory - Specify the path name of the integrated file system object for which information will be collected. Directory subtree - Specifies whether or not to collect directory information for subdirectories of the directory specified by the DIR parameter.
- *ALL - Directory information for subdirectories of the specified directory will be collected.
- *NONE - Directory information will only be collected for the files in the specified directory. No directory information will be collected for subdirectories.
- F9: Shows all spooled reports created by QMGTOOLS/QRYDIRINF.
- F11: Change view to show either - Collection file size, or Path specified in RTVDIRINF.
- F17: Shows the top of the list.
- F18: Shows bottom of the list.
- F22: Display full path name. If a path name is more than 32 characters, a greater-than symbol ">" will be shown next to the name at the right edge of the screen. Position the cursor on the line with the long path name and press F22 to view the complete path.
