Resolving The Problem

Below is the recommended method of adding a new system to an existing smsplex :

1) Add the new system to your base configuration using one of the systems in the sysplex (see the step by step below:

To add or remove systems or system group from the SMS base configuration, use ISMF option 8, then select option 3 Alter. On the next screen, press PF8 to get to this screen :

SCDS BASE ALTER                  Page 2 of 2
Command ===>

SCDS Name . : scdsname
SCDS Status : VALID

Specify one of the following options . .   1       (1 Add, 2 Delete, 3 Rename)

  Specify System Name . . . . .   xxxx     or Sys Group Name . .

New System/Sys Group Name . .           (For option 3, Rename)

System:
xxx1 xxx3 xxx4 xxx5

Sysgrp:

You can add or remove systems names or system group names from this screen.

Notes 1:

  • Also, these names are used in various places in the SMS configuration, in your Storage Group constructs and Library definitions in particular. They will need to be modified as well.
  • Last, the system name or system group names could also be used in your ACS routines as well. If they are, your ACS routines will need to be reviewed and changed as well.
  • Additional information : https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/zos/3.1.0?topic=configuration-specifying-systems-system-groups-in-sms-complex

2) Issue a SETSMS SCDS(dsname) from one of the systems in the PLEX. This activates the new configuration.

3) Issue D SMS to verify whether the change was effective on all systems.

4) IPL your new system using the current ACDS and COMMDS used above.

Remember to change the IGDSMSxx to match new names.

Note 2:  backup the SCDS before making any change. You can use the SETSMS SAVESCDS(dsname) to create a backup of the SCDS.
