How to Remove / Install AC Power Supply

Steps

Removing an AC Power Supply Unit

Before You Begin

⚠️ Important: Certain maintenance tasks should only be performed by certified professionals. Only proceed with basic troubleshooting or minor repairs if your product documentation or support team has authorized it. Unauthorized servicing may void your warranty. Always follow the safety guidelines provided with your equipment.

⚠️ Power Supply Warning: For systems with redundant power configurations, ensure that only one power supply unit (PSU) is removed or replaced at a time while the system remains powered on. At least one PSU must remain connected for the system to function properly.

If your setup includes a cable management arm that obstructs access to the PSU, release and lift it out of the way. Refer to your rack documentation for specific instructions regarding the cable management arm.

Make sure to review the safety instructions provided with your system.

Procedure

  1. Disconnect the power cord from both the electrical outlet and the PSU you plan to remove. Detach the cable from any securing straps.
  2. Press the release mechanism and use the PSU handle to carefully slide the unit out of the chassis.

After Removal

  • If needed, insert a replacement AC PSU.
  • If no replacement is being installed immediately, insert a PSU blank to maintain airflow and system integrity.

Installing an AC Power Supply Unit

Before You Begin

⚠️ Important: Only certified technicians should perform complex repairs. Follow the product documentation or instructions from your support team for any authorized actions. Unauthorized servicing may affect your warranty. Always adhere to the safety instructions provided with your equipment.

🔍 Note: The PSU label indicates its maximum output power in watts.

  • Review the safety instructions before proceeding.
  • For systems with redundant PSUs, ensure both units are identical in type and power rating.
  • If a PSU blank is installed, remove it before inserting the new PSU.

Procedure

  1. Insert the PSU into the chassis, ensuring it is fully seated and the release latch clicks into place.
  2. If applicable, re-secure the cable management arm.
  3. Connect the power cord to the PSU and plug it into a power outlet.

⚠️ Cable Safety: Secure the power cable using the provided strap to prevent accidental disconnection.

🔍 Note: When adding or replacing a PSU while the system is running, allow up to 15 seconds for the system to detect and configure the new unit. Do not remove the other PSU until the new one is fully recognized and operational. A green status indicator confirms proper functionality.
