APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• During DFSMShsm's space management processing, the following
  messages were issued:
  
  ADR356E (001)-SB207(01), TASK TERMINATED
  BY UIM EXIT (06)
  
  
  
  The error occurs only for empty PS data sets. HSM initially
  attempted to migrate to SDSP but the data set didn't fit in an
  SDSP. HSM migrates all data that resided in the empty extent on
  DASD. HSM continues migration and it was retried outside of SDSP
  
  which eventually succeeded.
  
  KNOWN IMPACT:
  HSM processing continues and migration succeeded on its own
  after retry (normal space management processing)

  *                      DFSMShsm will issue MSGARC0208I TRAP    *
  *                      FOR ERROR CODE 0071 from module         *
  *                      ARCMDSS and ARCMDSUV or ARCMVDS, and    *
  *                      the data set migration will be retried  *
  *                      to a non-SDSP ML1.                      *
  *                                                              *
  *                      The MSGARC0208I RC71 points to          *
  *                      MSGARC1271I which describes a class     *
  *                      transition error not related to the     *
  *                      current processing.                     *
  ****************************************************************
  Class transition function incorrectly used the existing RC71
  and MSGARC1271I which were already used by migration to SDSP
  processing.
  

Problem conclusion

• DFSMShsm has been modified to correct the problem.
  
  This APAR fix puts back OA11014 MSGARC1271I for migration to
  SDSP processing and corrects class transition function to use
  RC75 and MSGARC1275I CLASS TRANSITION FAILED - ERROR IN
  {AMS ALTER | LOCATE} PROCESSING.
  
  The following documentation updates will be reflected in a
  future revision of the publications:
  
  z/OS DFSMShsm Diagnosis (GC52-1387)
  - Add the following error code to Chapter 8. Diagnosing from
    return codes and reason codes, Table 3. Entries that pass
    error code to ARCERP:
    ARCMDSS
      71   Debug   Data set is too large to be migrated to an
                   SDSP data set.
  
  z/OS MVS System Messages, Vol 2 ARC-ASA (SA38-0669)
  - Change the existing ARC1271I message text and descriptions
    as below:
  
    ARC1271I  DATA SET CANNOT MIGRATE TO SDSP
  
    Explanation
    The migration of a data set targeted to an SDSP on
    ML1 failed because its size exceeds 255 VSAM record keys.
    The migration is retried to the ML1 volume (non-SDSP).

    Explanation
    DFSMShsm attempted to class transition a data set. The data
    set name and IDCAMS return code are given in accompanying
    message ARC0734I for an individual data set during volume
    processing.

        The IDCAMS ALTER command was unable to complete
        successfully. IDCAMS error messages are contained in
        the migration activity log. To review the activity log,
        issue a RELEASE HARDCOPY command. If the logs are on
        DASD, new logs are created and the log with the messages
        can be browsed. If the logs are directed to SYSOUT,
        they are printed.
