Removing Expansion Card Risers

Preparation

Before proceeding:

  • Review and adhere to the safety precautions outlined in your system’s safety documentation.
  • Complete all steps listed in the “Before working inside your system” section.
  • If present, remove any expansion cards installed in risers 2 and 3.

💡 Note: Riser 1 is functional only when both CPUs are installed.

Removal Steps

  1. For riser 1: Grip the riser by its designated slots and gently lift it from the connector on the system board.
 
2. For risers 2 and 3: Hold the edges of each riser and carefully lift them out of their connectors.
 

🔄 Cooling Tip: If riser 1 is not being used, ensure the blank cover is installed to maintain proper airflow. Only remove the blank if you're installing riser 1.

After Removal

  • If applicable, install an expansion card onto the riser.
  • Reinstall the riser if needed.
  • Follow the steps in the “After working inside your system” section.
 
 

Installing Expansion Card Risers

Preparation

  • Follow all safety instructions provided with your system.
  • Complete the “Before working inside your system” checklist.
  • If riser 1 was removed, install the expansion card(s) into it before proceeding.

⚠️ Reminder: Only perform tasks you're authorized and trained to do. Unauthorized repairs may affect your warranty coverage.

Installation Steps

  1. Align the riser with the connector and guide rails on the system board.
  2. Lower the riser into position until it is securely seated.

Final Steps

  • Install expansion cards into risers 2 or 3 if needed.
  • Complete the “After working inside your system” steps.
  • Install any necessary drivers for the expansion cards, as specified in their documentation.
