zHyperLink is an IBM Z performance feature which utilizes short-distance, direct I/O connections between the mainframe and physical storage systems to provide significant improvement in I/O latency. This can help both speed up Db2 transactions as well as reduce the total elapsed time of Db2 log-bound workloads.
This white paper focuses on impact of utilizing zHyperLink for the SAP Core Banking Account Settlement batch workload. It simulates the overnight account balancing of 100 million accounts and is a Db2 logging intensive workload.
The study evaluates zHyperLink across multiple test configurations spanning the two latest generations of mainframe the IBM z16 and IBM z17 as well as the two latest DASD generations of storage the DS8900 and DS8A00. The performance results show the significant performance benefits zHyperLink can provide to log-bound batch workloads.
