Summary

This document provides updated instructions for assigning a virtual optical device hosted by VIOS using the redesigned graphical user interface introduced in HMC V10R3.

Objective

To guide users through the process of mapping a virtual optical device to a logical partition using the new HMC V10R3 interface.

Environment

Hardware Management Console (HMC) Version: V10R3

Steps

A) VIOS Side
  • 1. Create a virtual media library:
   System resources → Virtual I/O Servers → Virtual Media Library → Create Library

  • 2. Add virtual optical media:

   System resources → Virtual I/O Servers → Virtual Media Library → Add

   Note: You can add an existing file from your VIO's home directory, import an existing file from an existing physical optical device, or create a blank media file.

B) LPAR Side

System resources → Partitions → Select Partition → Virtual Storage → Virtual Optical Device → Add Virtual Optical Device

assign to an LPAR

Once the virtual optical device has been created, you can load or unload media from the library
