How To
Summary
If you're experiencing login or SSO (Single Sign-On) issues, capturing a SAML trace can help our support team identify and resolve the issue. This guide explains how to use the SAML Tracer Chrome extension to capture the required data.
Steps
1. Install the SAML Tracer Extension
- Open your browser here it’s Google Chrome
- Go to the Chrome Web Store and download any open source: SAML-tracer - Chrome Web Store
- Click “Add to Chrome”.
- In the pop-up, click “Add Extension”.

- Once installed, you’ll see the SAML Tracer icon (a puzzle icon) near the Chrome address bar.

Note: If you're using a different browser (e.g., Microsoft Edge, Firefox), visit that browser’s extension/add-on store and search for a SAML trace extension. Install it in a similar way as described above.
2. Go to the SSO Sign-In Page
- Navigate to your digital workplace’s Single Sign-On (SSO) sign-in page.
- Do not sign in yet.
3. Start the SAML Tracer
- Click the SAML Tracer icon next to the Chrome address bar.
- A separate SAML Tracer window will open and automatically start logging HTTP and SAML traffic.

4. Sign In to Your Digital Workplace
- With the SAML Tracer window still open, go back to the browser and sign in as you normally would.

- The SAML Tracer will capture all the relevant authentication and redirect traffic.

5. Export the SAML Trace
- After the sign-in attempt, go back to the SAML Tracer window.
- Click the Export button in the top toolbar.

6. Set Export Preferences
- When prompted:
- Check the box for “Mask values” (this hides sensitive information).
- Then click Export.

- Save the exported .json file to your computer.

- Feel free to remove the SAML tracer
7. Share with Support
- Go back to your support case.
- Attach the exported SAML trace file to the case so the support team can analyze it.
