Abstract
The publishing and maintenance of all Universal Based Image (UBI) based container images for WebSphere Liberty, Open Liberty and WebSphere Application Server Base in Docker Hub has ended.
Content
The publishing and maintenance of all Universal Based Image (UBI) based container images for WebSphere Liberty, Open Liberty and WebSphere Application Server Base in Docker Hub has ended.
The container images in the Docker Hub repositories listed below will be affected and you must take action immediately and switch to the equivalent repository in IBM Container Registry (ICR). Ubuntu based Liberty container images will continue to be available from Docker Hub and aren’t expected to be impacted.
UBI container images for WebSphere Liberty 25.0.0.6, Open Liberty 25.0.0.6, WebSphere Application Server Base 9.0.5.24 and 8.5.5.27 are the last versions published to Docker Hub. The container images in Docker Hub for these products have been available from the IBM Container Registry (ICR) for several years, using the same image tags. Image pulls from ICR aren’t rate limited.
You must immediately switch to the equivalent ICR repository to avoid disruption and to continue to receive updates and security fixes for the operating system and Java. You must also ensure that your firewall, if any, is configured to allow pulling images using hostname icr.io and port 443.
List of Docker Hub repositories that are impacted and the action you must take:
-
Open Liberty UBI images pulled using ‘openliberty/open-liberty’ or ‘docker.io/openliberty/open-liberty’ from the Docker Hub repository at https://hub.docker.com/r/openliberty/open-liberty
-
Required Action: Switch to the same images in ICR by replacing the above references with ‘icr.io/appcafe/open-liberty’. For more information and full list of Open Liberty container images in ICR, see the Open Liberty documentation.
-
-
WebSphere Liberty UBI images pulled using ‘ibmcom/websphere-liberty’ or ‘docker.io/ibmcom/websphere-liberty’ from the Docker Hub repository at https://hub.docker.com/r/ibmcom/websphere-liberty
-
Required Action: Switch to the same images in ICR by replacing the above references with ‘icr.io/appcafe/websphere-liberty’. For more information and full list of WebSphere Liberty container images in ICR, see the WebSphere Liberty documentation.
-
-
WebSphere Application Server Base (Traditional) images pulled using ‘ibmcom/websphere-traditional’ or ‘docker.io/ibmcom/websphere-traditional’ from the Docker Hub repository at https://hub.docker.com/r/ibmcom/websphere-traditional
-
Required Action: Switch to the same images in ICR by replacing the above references with ‘icr.io/appcafe/websphere-traditional’. For more information and full list of WAS container images in ICR, see the documentation.
-
-
Open Liberty S2I (Source to image) pulled using ‘openliberty/open-liberty-s2i’ or ‘docker.io/openliberty/open-liberty-s2i’ from the Docker Hub repository at https://hub.docker.com/r/openliberty/open-liberty-s2i
-
Required Action: Switch to the same images in ICR by replacing the above references with ‘icr.io/appcafe/open-liberty-s2i’. For more information, see the documentation.
-
-
WebSphere Liberty S2I (Source to image) pulled using ‘ibmcom/websphere-liberty-s2i’ or ‘docker.io/ibmcom/websphere-liberty-s2i’ from the Docker Hub repository at https://hub.docker.com/r/ibmcom/websphere-liberty-s2i
-
Required Action: Switch to the same images in ICR by replacing the above references with ‘icr.io/appcafe/websphere-liberty-s2i’. For more information, see the documentation.
-
Note that the Ubuntu based Liberty images available from the following Docker Hub repositories aren’t impacted as those images are built by Docker Hub. We will continue the current process to make the source for them to be available to Docker Hub, so that Docker Hub can build and publish those images. They are expected to continue to be available, unless otherwise announced.
