This document provided details for the tape and optical devices that are supported on Power11 systems by IBM i.

    Note: No internal removable media devices are supported by IBM i on Power11.

    Note: VIOS does not support SAS tape library devices, but a TS2900 SAS tape library device that is configured to operate in Sequential mode can be attached to a VIOS partition.

    Note:  When a Fibre Channel tape device is attached by using a VIOS partition (NPIV support) a SAN switch is always required.

  • FC EN1J (CCIN 579C) 32 Gb 2-port Fibre Channel (Native or NPIV VIOS support) Supported on server models: 9080-HEU, 9824-22A, 9824-42A, 9856-22H, 9856-42H. This native adapter can support direct attach to a tape device with an 8Gb Fibre Channel interface when the device port is configured to run using Fibre Channel Arbitrated Loop.   This adapter can also support direct attach to full height LTO10 tape drives.  The following devices are supported:
    • 3555/5544 (TS4300) with Fibre Channel LTO6, LTO7, LTO8, LTO9, or LTO10 drives.  For direct attach support, change the Port Type setting to Loop (L)
    • 3573 (TS3100, TS3200) with Fibre Channel LTO5, LTO6, LTO7, or LTO8 drives.  For direct attach support, change the Topology setting to L-port or LN-port
    • 3576 (TS3310) with Fibre Channel LTO5, LTO6, LTO7, or LTO8 drives.  For direct attach support, use Modify Port Properties to change the setting to L port
    • 3584 (TS3500) with Fibre Channel LTO5, LTO6, LTO7, or LTO8 drives.  For direct attach support, change the Set Link Speed/Topology setting to L Port
    • 3584 (TS3500) with Fibre Channel 3592-E08 (TS1150), 3592-55G (TS1155), or 3592-60G (TS1160) drives. For direct attach support for 3592-E08  and 3592-55G, change the Set Link Speed/Topology setting to L Port.  Direct attach to 3592-60G is not supported by FC EN1J
    • 3584 (TS4500) with Fibre Channel LTO5, LTO6, LTO7, LTO8, LTO9, LTO10, 3592-EH8 (TS1150), 3592-55F (TS1155), 3592-60F (TS1160), or 3592-70F (TS1170) drives.  Direct attach to 3592-60F and 3592-70F is not supported by FC EN1J.  For direct attach support with LTO5, LTO6, LTO7, LTO8, and LTO9 use Modify Topology... to change the port topology to L Port.
    • Diamondback tape library with Fibre Channel LTO9 or LTO10 drives.  For direct attach support with LTO9 drives use Modify Topology... to change the port topology to L Port.
    • 3592-E08 (TS1150) or 3592-70F (TS1170) rack-mount drives.  Direct attach to 3592-70F is not supported by FC EN1J.  The other devices are already configured to support direct attach
    • FC 8248 HH-LTO5 FC in 7226 enclosure.  This device is already configured to support direct attach
    • FC 8348 HH-LTO6 FC in 7226 enclosure.  This device is already configured to support direct attach
    • FC 8446 HH-LTO7 FC in 7226 enclosure.  This device is already configured to support direct attach
    • FC 8546 HH-LTO8 FC in 7226 enclosure.  This device is already configured to support direct attach
    • FC 8646 HH LTO-9 Fibre Channel in 7226 enclosure.  This device is already configured to support direct attach
  • FC EN1K (CCIN 579C) 32 Gb 2-port low profile Fibre Channel (Native or NPIV VIOS support) Supported on server models: 9080-HEU, 9824-22A, 9856-22H. This native adapter can support direct attach to a tape device with an 8Gb Fibre Channel interface when the device port is configured to run using Fibre Channel Arbitrated Loop.   This adapter can also support direct attach to full height LTO10 tape drives.  The following devices are supported:
    • 3555/5544 (TS4300) with Fibre Channel LTO6, LTO7, LTO8, LTO9, or LTO10 drives.  For direct attach support, change the Port Type setting to Loop (L)
