IT48116: WHEN STARTING THE DATA COLLECTOR SERVICE, IT FAILS TO RUN COLLECTORSRVSTARTJAVA.BAT ON WINDOWS SERVER 2025

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• The Storage Insights Data Collector service fails to run
  automatically on Windows Server 2025 while attempting
  to run the collectorSrvStartJava.bat, which relies on the
  Windows WMIC command.  However, WMIC is no longer
  included by default in Windows Server 2025. Since WMIC
  is missing, the batch script fails to retrieve the process ID
  and timestamps, preventing the Data Collector from
  launching properly.
  
  If the Storage Insights Data Collector is older than Build
  version 20250813-0704, then we strongly recommend
  upgrading your Data Collector to the current version.  If
  there is a valid reason you cannot upgrade (or you continue
  to experience issues) then review this information from

Local fix

• If the Storage Insights Data Collector is older than
  Build version 20250813-0704, then we strongly
  recommend upgrading your Data Collector to the
  current version.  If there is a valid reason you cannot
  upgrade (or you continue to experience issues) then
  you can add Window WMIC by following these steps:
  
  Go to Settings > System > Optional Features
  Click Add a feature
  Search for WMIC
  Add it, and then reboot the system
  
  Alternatively, you can install it via command line:
  
  DISM /Online /Add-Capability /CapabilityName:Wmic~~~~
  
  After installing WMIC, restart the Data Collector
  service. It should now start successfully.
