ANS1082E Invalid destination file specification

Troubleshooting

Problem

The following error was encountered during the file restore process.

dsmc restore /Users/Documents/test.txt "/tmp/test_restore/*"

Restore function invoked.

ANS1082E Invalid destination file specification '/tmp/test_restore/*' entered

Symptom

From dsmerror.log:-

ANS1102E An excessive number of command line arguments are passed to the program.
ANS1133W An expression might contain a wildcard not enclosed in quotes.
ANS2039E Invalid destination file specification '/tmp/test_restore/*' entered

Cause

In this scenario, the destination path must end with a directory delimiter when performing a file list restore, restoring multiple files, or when the SUBDIR=YES option is used. Therefore, avoid using an asterisk in the destination path.

Environment

IBM Storage Protect Client version 8.1.x and all further releases.

Diagnosing The Problem

The file restore command failed with an error 'ANS2039E Invalid destination file specification '/tmp/test_restore/*' entered'. The issue may be caused by the use of wildcards such as * in the destination path.

Resolving The Problem

When performing a file restore or restoring multiple files, the destination path must end with a directory delimiter. To avoid this, avoid using an asterisk (*) in the destination path and ensure the command syntax is correct.
