Servicing the SAS Backplane

Precautions and Warnings

Before proceeding, note the following:

• Certain repairs require the expertise of a certified service technician.
• Only authorized troubleshooting and repairs should be performed, as per product documentation or under the guidance of the support team.
• Unauthorized servicing may void the warranty.
• To prevent damage, remove the SAS drives before removing the backplane and note their original locations for proper reinstallation.

Removing the SAS Backplane

To remove the SAS backplane, follow these steps:

1. Remove the bezel if applicable. Refer to the relevant section for instructions.
2. Power down the system and disconnect it from the electrical outlet.
3. Access the system's interior. Consult the guide on opening the system.
4. Remove all hard drives. See the instructions for removing a hot-swap hard drive. Ensure to label them for correct reinstallation.
5. Disconnect the power cable from the SAS backplane.
6. Disconnect the SAS data cables from the backplane.
7. Remove the SAS backplane: a. Slide the backplane upward while pulling the blue latch toward the front. b. Pull the backplane toward the back to remove it from the retention hooks. c. Lift the board out carefully to avoid damaging components. d. Place the SAS backplane face down on a work surface.

Installing a SAS Backplane

To install a SAS backplane:

1. Install the SAS backplane: a. Lower the backplane into the system carefully. b. Align the slots with the retention hooks, then move the backplane forward until the hooks fit through the slots. c. Slide the backplane downward until the blue retention latch locks into place.
2. Connect the SAS data and power cables to the backplane.
3. Reinstall the hard drives in their original locations.
4. Close the system. Refer to the section on closing the system.
5. Restore power to the system and peripherals.
