How to Install / Remove a Raid Battery
Steps
Handling RAID Batteries with PERC Controller Cards
Applicability
The guidelines provided in this section are specifically designed for systems equipped with the optional PERC (PowerEdge RAID Controller) card.
Removing a RAID Battery
To safely remove a RAID battery, follow these steps:
- Gently pull back on the right edge of the battery compartment and carefully withdraw the RAID battery from its carrier.
- Disconnect the cable linking the RAID battery to the storage controller card.

Installing a RAID Battery
To install a RAID battery, adhere to the following procedure:
- Connect the battery cable to the appropriate connector on the battery itself.
- Identify the battery compartment located above the hard drive bays. Refer to the relevant diagram (e.g., Figure 3-1) for visual guidance.
- With the cable directed towards the rear, align the left side of the RAID battery with the left side of the battery compartment. Consult the corresponding illustration (e.g., Figure 3-24) for clarity.
- Rotate the right side of the battery downwards and press it into its locked position.
- If not previously done, route the battery cable through the right chassis wall. For detailed instructions, see the "Cable Routing" section.
- Connect the battery cable to the battery connector on the storage controller card.
Important Considerations
- Always handle the RAID battery with care to avoid damage.
- Ensure the PERC controller card is compatible with the RAID battery being installed.
- For specific visual references, consult the figures mentioned (e.g., Figure 3-1, Figure 3-24) or the system's documentation.
