Removing a Hot-Swap Hard Drive
WARNING: Prior to removing or installing a hot-swap hard drive, verify that your operating system supports these operations. Refer to your operating system's documentation for further details.
- If the front bezel is present, remove it. Refer to "Removing the Front Bezel."
- Using the RAID management software, prepare the drive for removal. Wait for the hard-drive indicators on the drive carrier to indicate that it's safe to remove the drive. For hot-swap drive removal instructions, consult your SAS RAID controller documentation. If the drive has been online, the green activity/fault indicator will flash as it's powered down. Once the indicators are off, the drive is ready for removal.
- Press the button on the front of the drive carrier and open the release handle to free the drive. Refer to Figure 3-5 for guidance.
- Slide the hard drive out until it's completely detached from the drive bay.
CAUTION: To ensure optimal system cooling, all empty hard-drive bays should have drive blanks installed.
- Insert a drive blank into the empty drive bay. Refer to "Installing a Hard-Drive Blank."
- If necessary, reinstall the bezel. Refer to "Installing the Front Bezel."
