Error description

  • When you execute  mmdiag --memory the number of
    allocations
    
    will be shown in negative
    
    Statistics for MemoryPool id 2 ("Shared Segment")
       27650488272 bytes in use
       32641128850 hard limit on memory usage
       34352508928 bytes committed to regions
              7865 number of regions
       -1956065933 allocations
         102951952 frees
       -2064121769 allocation failures
    

Local fix

Problem summary

  • Inside GPFS daemon, the variable that represents number of
    allocations is integer type which could overflow in large
    system. As a result of it, some statistics are shown in
    negative.
    

Problem conclusion

  • This problem is fixed in 5.1.9.9

    Benefits of the solution:
    /usr/lpp/mmfs/bin/mmdiag or /usr/lpp/mmfs/bin/mmfsadm will
    display the number of allocations correctly.
    
    Work around:
    none
    
    Problem trigger:
    run "/usr/lpp/mmfs/bin/mmdiag --memory" or
    "/usr/lpp/mmfs/bin/mmfsadm dump alloc" in highly loaded system.
